I'm on Calling All My Lovelies right now and this is already my pop AOTY quite easily. One of my favorite aspects of the album is how the tracks don't feel like they're overproduced in the way too much pop in 2016 is. He gave the tracks what they needed instead of what would guarantee they would get the most radio play possible, and I respect the HELL out of someone in his position for doing that.
It's pretty reminiscent of '80s and '90 R&B and soul throughout. Elements of R. Kelly, MJ, new jack swing... if that sounds good to you, definitely give it a shot! It's not an album meant to be taken very seriously, but an extremely fun listen.
Everyone who hoped the success of "Uptown Funk" would get him to further embrace his 80s pop skills is going to be so happy.
Fourth listen... favorites are "That's What I Like", "Perm", and the last twenty seconds of "Calling All My Lovelies" for the audacity. Easily a top 10 of the year for me. If I get used to how the tempo slows down in the back half could be top 3-5.
never really liked bruno mars before but im loving this album. Straight Up and Down is simply incredible.
I heard your "booty deserve a celebration" as "your booty tastes like celebration" and I was like damn Bruno
