Ohhh I’ll definitely participate but need a bit to think Been on a big Bruce kick this week obviously. Currently listening to The Rising the way god/Brendan O’Brien intended: on shitty computer speakers (I am only partially kidding)
Went to the shitty little Walmart in our town of 5000 people in Mississippi with my dad and they didn’t have it so he drove to Tupelo (90 min round trip) and got two copies just in case. I’d just seen Bruce live with him like the year before so I was pretty aware of how big of a deal it was, although obviously still too young to fully fully appreciate. Extremely core memory regardless tho haha
I prefer the original version of Blood Brothers if only because of this incredible tribute their first show after Danny died:
1. The Rising 2. Land of Hope and Dreams 3. Youngstown 4. Long Walk Home 5. Moonlight Motel 6. Better Days 7. Living Proof 8. Lonesome Day 9. American Land 10. My Beautiful Reward That’s probably my top 10 from 1990-present but I’m excluding anything that we know was written pre-1990. So nothing old from Tracks, no This Hard Land or If I Was the Priest etc.
Blood brothers Ghost of tom joad Jesus was an only son Lonesome day Waitin on a sunny day Terry’s Song Long walk Home Wrecking Ball I’ll See You in My Dreams The Wall
This crazy geriatric played another >3 hour show last night. 3:35 but with a rain delay slightly extending the encore break Bruce Springsteen Setlist at Reale Arena, San Sebastian
After revisiting it this morning, I think I have to move Letter to You up a notch or two. I forget how much that album wallops me emotionally.
I would never try to defend High Hopes as an album, but I've always had a soft spot for Hunter of Invisible Game
That song, the wall, ghost of tom joad, down in the hole, american skin are all soft spots for me...idk clearly im higher on high hopes than most but like half of it is good!
"41 Shots" is a great song, but I do not like that version of it. The production sounded dated even when the album came out, and it just doesn't have the raw, incendiary intensity of the live versions. I was surprised at how much they missed on that one, considering how good the studio versions of "Wrecking Ball" and "Land of Hope and Dreams" turned out to be after years of loving those songs in live form.
I've always felt that I like it more than most people while still recognizing that it's kind of a disappointing mess as an album
I'm not gonna do a whole ranking, mostly because i'm not familiar with enough of the bottom end enough, but i can tell ya my list starts with top-5 are 1. Born to Run 2. Born In The USA 3. Darkness on the Edge of Town 4. Greetings from Asbury Park 5. The Rising 6. The Wild, The Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle
What an incredible setlist. Atlantic City and Youngstown are my top full band reworks + 9 tracks from BITUSA. Dear Lord.
I generally not have had a problem with his ongoing alliance with Ron Aniello, but that song is an exception.
