boss' tone on the solo recording is so good. i need to know what pedal he's using here. I'm sure it's something dumb like a super overdrive or something but still
Lucky Town is actually pretty great. "Better Days", "Local Hero", "If I Should Fall Behind". Lot of winners on there.
those are the three best tracks. that’s it. it’s better than human touch and ghost but that isn’t saying much. tunnel of love > darkness > born to run > nebraska > wild innocent > born in the usa > greetings > river > lucky town > ghost of tom joad > human touch
I’ve come around on Ghost over the past couple years. Really engaging stories if you can get past the super drab production and presentation of the songs. I’m was not at all surprised to hear that Jason Isbell adores that album.
yeah, the songwriting is great. i think it could have been a great album if it were structured differently. but as a follow up to nebraska, it’s a failure imo.
Yeah every time a song from it comes up on shuffle I'm like "Well SHIT that's a good song" and then every time I put the whole record on I end up zoning out at some point.
I can really only listen to it if I have an opportunity to have laser-like focus on the lyrics. Otherwise, it loses me. I always thought it was pretty dull album until a couple years ago when I listened to it while shoveling snow. Then I finally realized how riveting stuff like "Highway 29" and "Sinloa Cowboys" was. I get why it's so sparse and stripped down, but I really wish it had some of that lush, rich texture that Devils & Dust has.
Yeah I really feel like Devils and Dust is where he perfected how to present his acoustic-based stuff. Nebraska has the better songs probably, but it's so sparse that I'm actually more likely to throw on Devils just to listen to.
It will always have a major soft spot for me too as the first Bruce album I got into when it was released. I really became a massive fan between it and The Rising.
Didn’t come to appreciate Tom Joad songs until I listened to some live solo sets from when he was touring that album. Those are some of his best songs lyrically
Streets of Philadelphia is his best song between Tunnel of Love and The Rising eras might be his best post-ToL, period
Amazing song, but I’m giving that nod to “Secret Garden” or, if we count live recordings, “Land of Hope and Dreams”
the rising is probably the last great album from him from what i remember (haven’t heard the new one yet). i don’t love magic as much as others around here but maybe revisiting it will change that. probably slot the rising between wild innocent and born in the usa.
apple music needs more live bruce recordings. the ones it has are of course probably the staples, but, i would love the single show releases he puts out periodically to find their way to streaming!
