Flip greetings and Nebraska and that’s mine. Wild and river could easily be flipped though depending on the day
the ties that bind one LP version of the river would probably be his best album. as the album stands, it’s my least favorite of his first eight
There’s definitely a flawless single LP version of The River, but the bloat is part of the charm for me. Plus, even the songs I like less really clicked in new ways when I saw him do that album front to back a few years ago.
Honestly if I started trimming I’d end up with a disproportionate amount of sad ballads, and that’s no fun as a listen. He knew what he was doing. Sprawl so you have room for the bucket of amazing sad-sack ones
Yeah, I think that’s part of that album’s brilliance. Feels like collected snapshots of American life from a road trip across the States. I don’t love every song, but the collection as a whole is so impressive.
The songs I don't really care for is Crush and You Can Look. Marry You is so so. Funny that they are all back to back to back. I like the darkness-era version better of all the songs that ended up on the River also.
the River is far too bloated for me, personally, i very very rarely play it front to back, but seeing it all in full live was special. Wild Innocent gets better for me with every listen. 'Incident on 57th' deserves just as much love as 'Backstreets' and 'Jungleland' get.
tunnel of love > darkness > born to run > nebraska > wild innocent > born in the usa > greetings > river from what i remember it falls off a cliff after this but i’m gonna try to stick it out
Putting Tunnel at number one, I like it! Not my pick, but an underrated masterpiece that rarely gets enough credit.
TOL has some jams. Title track, brilliant disguise, two faces, one step up, aint got you, tougher than the rest. I just don't love Bruce and the band doing that style as much as their other stuff.
