Uhgggg both sound so great. “1972” especially sounds fantastic. BSS are one of the most important bands of my life so its great to hear them making new music. I love their love.

I think my initial reaction is I am disappointed by the single. Especially after hearing the new live cuts.

Idk maybe it will grow on me. Feels a little over produced tbh. A little too glossy.

Why wouldn't you want a track to sound as good as possible.

 

I think you’re confused by what over produced means.

 

“To record or arrange (a song or piece of music) in such an elaborate way that the spontaneity or artistry of the original material is lost.”

BSS has thrived on a sound that hovers below the surface of pop production. There’s vocal hooks and huge moments but they are usually obscured just enough (usually by the production) to keep it interesting. This song washes a lot of that away in favor of a cleaner glossier sound. It’s ok. It will probably grow on me.

The EP slays. I personally really like it. The last few minutes of Boyfriends are fucking insane.

They do seem to step into some glossier territory on this EP but I'd say All I Want is the poppiest song here.

 

Yea “All I Want” is definitely my least favorite thing here. Overall I think it’s a really good EP. a nice addition to the canon. “1972” is gorgeous.

“Can’t Find My Heart” is up on streaming. It’s a fantastic studio cut. I was pretty luke warm on it when they debuted it live. So I’m definitely happy how great it turned out.
