I've seen people say that Kevin being in contact with Ameer and Dom/Matt wanting nothing to do with him has been a sticking point but that could just be a rumor. The only lyric I heard was "Linked up with Ameer to see what he been up to", which made me cringe a bit but at the same time as long as Kevin's not putting him on songs or saying "we're best buds still" then I can't really admit to understanding what that situation's been like for him in his personal life. A bunch of young guys navigating that mess aren't going to be perfect but I'm just glad this final album thing didn't result in some kind of Ameer return/tribute. edit: clearly I missed some more of the Ameer stuff on the record, see below post...
He talks about him throughout the record. Pretty explicit that he is still friends with him and that it caused friction with the other members. Idk/don't care that he talks to the guy. Weird to air that shit out on a record tho, especially since afaik the allegations haven't been resolved or anything. Plus the allegations against Nick Holiday. Just weird stuff
Ah gotcha, admittedly haven't listened to The Family closely enough yet as I'd been playing both the new ones. Yeah that's a bummer. Even if it's contributed to the breakup of the group I'm glad that other members have seemingly put their foot down over this issue.
Somewhere between Roadrunner and them abruptly breaking up and Kevin continuing to be annoyingly online about it Devil's advocate (I know), but there's been discussion on this forum before about how abusers need friends/a support system to, especially to enforce change/progress or at the very least keep the person from that behavior again, and with The Family being a project designed to shed some light on the band's situation considering how abrupt their breakup was, I think it makes a lot of sense for Kevin to discuss it on the record as a catalyst for the band breaking up I think it's handled relatively tastefully (other members seemed okay with it, Ameer isn't featured or given a platform). Idk, it's a traumatic experience, I feel like it makes sense that a songwriter would write about it. Just my two cents, although I'll give you that the allegations were never resolved to my knowledge. Don't know who Nick Holiday is
I found myself tiring of Brockhampton too during the height of Kevin's annoying tweets until I checked myself when I realized....I still really like all the music they make lol. If you take a step back and look at what they've done it's just an insanely impressive body of work by some young artists over a very short span of time. But the way the internet is now it's like there's a collective decision to be done with something, whether it's because a group has annoying fans or annoying members or whatever. Enjoying TM a lot more than I thought I would. Matt Champion's always been my favorite member and he really led the charge with this one coming out as good as it did.
I NEVER buy CDs anymore, but seeing as vinyl isn't likely and the TM CDs are signed, I snagged a signed Dom CD and the box set with The Family and the blue tee (there were none of the first set with the Couch burning shirt in my size). I don't have any BH merch aside from vinyl, so it felt fun to pull the trigger on something.
Hmm, not really liking TM at all. Man on the moon and goodbye are the only ones that stood out on first listen
Been listening at work so it hasn't been a super close listen, but thought both of these were pretty cool. Actually kind of dig the concept of Kevin closing the band with an air it all out there album, but it helps that I really enjoy his solo stuff to begin with (sometimes more than a lot of BH). Gotta spend more time with both though
I think a crazy thing for me is finding out iridescence was made with Kevin hardly help. I consider that album like the absolutely top tier and he was barely involved?? Wild
Iridescence, I wasn't really there for my brothers Barely present, more focused on bad relationships It was good for my image, I got lost in it That's when I first started drinking, lost my hunger, man ok maybe looking at it again it could be mentally he wasn’t there for them during it
Kinda loving TM, feels like Ginger but more sad, scattered, and distant, which I feel matches how bittersweet and unfortunate things have been for this band since SATIII. Animal, MOTM, and Crucify Me are the standouts.
Listened to these while driving a couple hours for work and I vastly prefer The Family which surprised me. As a I saw others say, it’s a pretty solid “solo” album for Kevin and the production was top notch. Some of his flows even reminded me of Childish Gambino. Gonna be spinning this a lot
Man I can't stop playing both of these albums back to back. They fucking nailed this I absolutely cannot wait for Matt's solo career especially. Have you guys ever heard his solo stuff? He has about 8 singles out and they're all fantastic. I actually made an album out of them here if you guys want to check them out in that format (I did the sequencing myself haha, I think it flows very well)
I've been listening to TM on repeat over the past few hours while doing some stuff around the house, and it gets better with every listen. Lots of really delightful moments. It reminds me of an alternate-universe Technical Difficulties, almost.
Anyone watching the live stream tonight? It’s cold af here so I probably will. EDIT: Just finished watching and it was a WAY better send-off than the Coachella show. Almost two hours long and the set list was pretty damn great.
