An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

thought a lot about this at work today, frankly more than I needed to, and came up with a list of what each member might do from here/what I want them to do. more a coping mechanism than anything because I'm legit upset by this, but fuck it:

    - Kevin's gonna keep doing Kevin. while I mostly enjoy what he did with Arizona Baby it was definitely a product of compromise; with his solo project as his main focus he could potentially put out something on the level of American Boyfriend again. he'll be fine

    - Dom is definitely gonna have eyes on him after all this, and I think he'll massively deliver. my preference for him would be to go for some vintage, old-school production and just spit straight bars over it with no diversions. kinda like his verse on "WHEN I BALL" stretched across a full album, just go Late Registration with it

    - Joba is the wildcard and he pretty much has free reign with it now. dude could do a straight rap project, go R&B, scream his ass off for 40 minutes over guitar and it won't feel out of place for him. honestly just hope the guy is doing okay

    - Merlyn is Merlyn. I'm not all that sure his shtick will continue to work without a band to accompany it; then again this might be the push he needs to fully develop his style the way he's hinted at on stuff like the "TONYA" verse. on the other hand, he might just keep being Merlyn lol

    - Matt is a weird one because I really like him in the context of BH but I have trouble imagining him carrying an album solo. maybe his lyrical style is a bit too limited for that? my preference would be he team up with someone and do the classic rap duo career (a Dom & Matt album would be fire) but he'll probably do pretty good numbers no matter what

    - Bearface... just needs to sing. could see it being cool if he went for more of an art-pop thing, like a 1975/No Rome type of production, but he will probably just keep making guitar tracks and making bank and who could blame him lmao

    - Romil is honestly maybe in the best spot out of everyone coming out of this. his production was universally acclaimed for the whole of BH's run and he'll probably be fielding offers from a lot of major artists starting real soon. he'll do fine

    - bit hard to comment on Jabari (who literally just started rapping/singing on tracks before the split) and Kiko. their production was always solid but definitely took a backseat to Romil's most of the time. would be cool to see them keep going, but unfortunately they might just disappear after all this

I think all of them have great potential to continue their careers in music. The thing about this industry is it does come down to who you are as a person. I agree Kevin's gonna keep doing Kevin, he was always going to make music anyway, but do the other guys in BH have the drive to make it in the industry without the support of their boy band? I feel like it's less common to see in hip hop but everyone on Chorus knows of so many talented musicians who just don't get back to work after the band breaks up, for all kinds of reasons.

Personally I think I'd miss Dom and Bearface the most if they don't keep making music. Romil and Merlyn too, tbh.

I just want to see what Matt champion could do solo I feel like he be good for that ny hip hop style that’s come up lately

I feel like Kevin is easily going to be the most successful as a musician simply because he’s been the face of BH but I really do hope Champion, Merlyn, and Joba make some serious moves.

Definitely agreed about Romil being set since I can easily see him working in the big leagues behind the board.

Have you guys heard Matt's solo stuff prior to BH?

He has a lot more range than you guys seem to think, he barely even rapped before BH started. I think he actually has the most solo potential besides Kevin and maybe Dom and Bearface

I'll take a stab at some wild predictions

    - Kevin will keep growing as a solo artist and have a couple big hits but won't graduate past 3k capacity rooms. Keeps his sound the most like BH out of the guys, and becomes a semi-important figure behind the scenes of his scene of hip-hop

    - Matt will go back to singing a lot but combine it with rapping with lush production. Gets into modeling/fashion on the side. Won't get huge but will have a dedicated fanbase

    - Dom will lean purely into rapping, going over a wide variety of types of production over the course of his different albums. Will get a fanbase that isn't purely BH fans

    - Merlyn will try to get a solo career started with his sound mostly being loud/abrasive but will only really get the attention of BH fans and eventually start hinting at a BH reunion to keep attention on him. Basically the Mike G of BH

    - Joba will fall off the face of the earth for a year or two and keep fans begging for music and will finally emerge and drop an amazing album that combines multiple genres flawlessly. Will get a cult following but only drop music very occasionally

    - Bearface will make guitar-centric pop music and have multiple songs blow up. His music will sound the most different from BH out of all of the guys and will get a decent following

    - Romil will branch out and get beat placements from multiple big artists. Will be all over the alt-rap/"artsy rap" scene, but will still place priority on working with Kevin as his main producer. Produces a lot of stuff for the other BH guys too

    - Jabari will mostly just produce solo stuff for BH members, will try to release an album or two as a vocalist but will mostly stick with producing

    - Kiko will basically disappear, he barely even has production on any BH songs so I unfortunately don't see him making it big as a producer

I’m only posting this because every time I mention brockhampton to someone they always tells me to listen to this group and they dropped this and it’s nice

I still need to check out a few of these groups myself but "new BHs" that I've heard about are AG Club, 99 Neighbors, Paris Texas and seeyousoon. AG Club and Paris Texas are quite good so far and have a lot of potential but I still need to check the other two out

I’ve always been 60-70% sure that BH would come back from their hiatus ever since they first made the announcement of the imminent hiatus.

I think they all just need some time apart to do their own projects and eventually appreciate what they have together.

So like I said a few posts up, I checked out a few of the groups that people are calling the "new BH" and they're actually all very solid. My personal favorite was seeyousoon, a group with six vocalists, one of which is a female which is pretty cool. Their album that just came out a few weeks ago is very reminiscent of Iridescence/Big Fish Theory:

This song is more akin to classic BH but it's also dope:

Along with them, 99 Neighbors is also very promising. They haven't FULLY hit their potential yet imo but they have some great shit like these songs

AG Club is the other one that gets compared to BH a lot, I do like them but I need to delve into their shit some more. Couple songs I do really like though:

I don't like any of these groups as much as BH (yet) but I think they all hit a very similar feel for anyone who is looking for more of it

Yeah but Kevin made it sound it was something he made himself in the BH name. Weird presentation but I’m sure they’re doing a doc along with it
