Yeah, based on the wording of that post, I can't tell if shit went south or if COVID just made them speed up their plans. Also wonder what it means for the final album they were going to release ALSO wonder when Roadrunner vinyl will be shipping haha
EDIT: Also, remember when they built an entire Roadrunner gas station and then didn't do anything with it besides like a 30-second teaser?
I’ve been a fan of these guys literally since before they released an album. I discovered Kevin on a whim in 2015 when I saw MTV1987 on some random list of underground albums and fell in love immediately, following pretty much everything from there. It was absolutely insane to watch their rise in real time, I’ve really never experienced it to that degree with anyone else but these guys. I’m incredibly bummed there won’t be a final album and that I won’t get to see them one last time, although I went to every single tour so at least I have that. That said, I’m almost certain something happened between them. This is speculation but a few of the members have been in contact with Ameer and they’ve been heavily hinting at Puppy coming out, including hints from Ameer, and I think others may not have been cool with that, particularly Dom. No idea if that had anything to do with it but it’s the first thing that came to mind. The tour was selling really poorly too from what I’ve seen but I don’t see why that would cancel the final album too
To be fair they didn't totally say a break up, at least an indefinite hiatus leaves like a fraction of a chance they could come back at some point lol Sad that the album isn't gonna come out either, wonder how close it was to being done
I'd be happy to wrongly assume that, I just figured they would have said something about it in the statement. I suppose they don't HAVE to though as the focus is the shows, so we'll see
Personally I wouldn't assume anything about an album, and honestly this statement makes me believe even more that there will be an album. Ending the band with final shows and a final album seems totally possible. We all know they have multile albums worth of material. Anyway, we'll see!
The statement reads to me like there will be no album too since it just says they're doing these shows then going on hiatus. Who knows though, would be cool to get a final album.
absolutely wild that ameer music without them has been bad and yet people think he was the best member and carrying them
Wait do you think that they've been bad without Ameer? Iridescence is their best album and Ameer had arguably the most limited skill set
the only sucky thing is I feel like we will never hear any solo music from Matt champion or Dom or bearface idk why I just feel like it won’t happen
I remember reading a while back in a Gabe Saporta interview that he was mentoring Matt Champion, so I wonder if he'll go the A&R route. It would be tragic to never hear Bearface's voice again. Dude could make a pretty prolific features career if he was proactive about it. Dom... idk. He's one of my favorites and I could see him dropping a thoughtful album. Always been underrated.
this is a bummer but yeah doesn't come as a massive surprise for me. shit has seemed really tense for a while now, like when Romil tweeted out "I'm wondering where the new Brockhampton is too" a couple weeks back. idk if it really had something to do with Ameer or not, but feels like something went down
Fuck. I’m never going to see Brockhampton live? Fuck me, that’s depressing… I hope they still release that last album or at least Puppy as they’ve been hinting for months now..
So after thinking about it all day my theory is now that they had started work on the final album, couldn't pull anything together, and then pivoted to releasing Puppy instead, which caused internal fighting. Since the tour was also selling horribly and probably would have had be cancelled anyway, they just pulled the plug early. Again, pure speculation but it would make sense. They've been visibly less passionate about the group and spending a lot less time together and drifting apart over the last couple years so the only real surprise about this split is the abruptness of it Would have loved to get more closure and a sense of finality but at least Roadrunner is in hindsight a great album to go out on
