Personally, I think Iridescence is their best record for the reason you mentioned, just so ambitious and completely different from the rest of their discography. But in a way, to me, Roadrunner feels similar but with some production cues from the Saturation trilogy. It's like there's less going on, but in a good way. Takes the minimalism of those first two records and combines it with the scope of Iridescence imo.
So I just got into Brockhampton...holy shit lol I'd always known some of their stuff, was aware of their story/Saturation trilogy/Ameer shit/etc but never really took a deep dive. New album gave me the opportunity and I've been listening to nothing else for days. Because I wasn't around for the progression and any hype or disappointment, it's a blast to just experience six fucking incredible rap albums that have somehow all come out since 2017. Roadrunner and Iridescence are probably my favorites (Sat 2 and 3 are right up there) but I genuinely think they've just continued to improve and refine their sound. Ginger had more skips than some of the others for me but I still think it's great. Matt Champion's probably my favorite member (unpopular opinion I think? Idk, his flows and charisma always get me hype when he hits a track. Dom's the best lyricist though). This whole experience has really reinvigorated my love for rap music in a way that nothing has since maybe the first Kendrick album.
This is the first tape where I liked Joba. Bearface is being underutilized, unless he’s one trick pony and they know it
Bearface destroys the opening track on the livestream, he definitely has more range than they're using
Bearface is on this more than Dom lol I don't think they're out here analysing how much time each member has when they're making an album, they're just picking the best songs and some people get less time
I hear you, a lot of serious fans would disagree that they are picking the best songs haha. Their unreleased stuff is wild
Yes they are bad haha, Sex is better live for sure. Studio version has this annoying beepy drone thing
ok fair, I should probably have said "what they think are the best songs" I think they mostly nailed this one though, cos yeah those bonus tracks are atrocious lol
Agreed! I'm very curious to hear what the "pop album" they were working on after GINGER sounds like, but I'm more than happy with this one! But I'm a weird fan and would love a whole album of songs like the title track off GINGER hahaa
I would love that too, one of my favourite BH songs lmao if the whole album sounded like those TD snippets, like "Wake Up Call" I would be very here for it
I've come around to Chain On in a big way, but definitely seemed like one of the more interesting choices to pull from TD for the album. I'm sure sample clearing had something to do with it.
Matt is my favorite member too for the record Strictly in the context of the group (so not counting solo material) I think I go Matt>Kevin>Joba>Dom>Merlyn>Bearface
