I'm fine with Sempiternal's lyrics because on a base level they make me laugh, but also knowing where they came from with Oli having problems and feeling like he was being pushed over and over to seek God and to just say "fuck that". There are certainly more nuanced ways to say it but I wouldn't say he was necessarily doing it for the offense of it. There are some very choice lines on Sempiternal, and personally I don't much like religion so was sort of refreshing to just hear someone lay it out.
Oh I forgot about that orchestra live album, it definitely made me appreciate That's The Spirit a little more. The original album should have sounded like that from the beginning.
Tts is a fun listen and the orchestra is awesome. If anything I like the weaker songs there more than the snoozers on Sempi (go to hell, seen it all...)
Supposedly the openers for the tour are You Me At Six and Starset. Anyone who knows me knows my love of Starset. This better be a true thing.
I do not like Starset Edit: this is a bad, low quality post, and I should feel bad. i think starset is great in theory, but their execution lacks. the melodies don't hit as well as they should and the albums feel very bloated
Space alt rock. But it’s Really hard to define them they kinda blend metalcore/pop/electronic/melodic/symphonic all into one. Check out their album Vessels it’s delicious. And they have probably the best live show I’ve ever seen
re: lyrics, honestly oli being kind of a dumbass but trying to express shit that's real to him in the only way he knows how is kind of part of the charm of bmth to me like i bet he just thesauresed words for "eterneal" or "forever" to come to "sempiternal"
I'll have to have a listen, but that choice makes sense if that's the style they were going to experiment with on this new album.
I think you’ll like it. It’s one of my favorite albums of recent years but yes it fits with the TTS/ Amo era
One of my friends when I told him the supposed tour support said “Starset are so gimmicky. I’ll be surprised if BMTH really willingly brings them on as tourmates”. I’ve never really listened to them myself though. But anyway, I LOVE Mantra. I feel like BMTH are a band that I’ll always like regardless of how drastically they change their sound. I’ve been listening to them since CYB and honestly think Sempiternal and TTS are my favorite albums (Sempiternal more so).
Yeah I went and listened to their new stuff after asking and yeah.... not what I expected and also did not enjoy it.
Heard a couple of new YMAS songs a few weeks ago... Really couldn't tell what they were going for but whatever it was it wasn't good
The lyrics for Crooked Youth are just for the sake of being offensive. They ruin what would otherwise be one of the best songs on the album. Saying "I've been born again, thank you, Jesus. F*** your faith" is not being anything other than a complete dick. No one forced religion on him, he was given the option to pray while he was in rehab because it helps some people. Him choosing not to is completely fine, however, being a dick about it isn't cool.
I always thought Sempiternal was structurally kind of weak. In parts it's fantastic, in parts it drags. If I had to rank: There Is A Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It, There Is A Heaven, Let's Keep It A Secret Suicide Season That's The Spirit Sempiternal Literally every remix or b-side they've ever written Count Your Blessings/This Is What The Edge of Your Seat Was Made For
