That's the most likely, but I'm lowkey hoping it's someone from a completely different scene like Lauren from Chvrches, or even someone from the indie scene like Julien Baker (even though I know that's never happening in a million years)
Single is fine, nowhere as impressive as "Drown" and it does feel safe. The album is supposed to contain way weirder stuff, I hope they're not lying about that.
Hey Julien would be more likely than you think, she has said that she grew up listening to bands like TDWP, Underoath and such
I get they have to hype their own stuff, but I rolled my eyes when they said the new stuff smashes the old out of the park after releasing mantra. Surely the band has heard doomed??
I mean if this is their equivalent of True Friends yeah this smashes that out of the park I’m hoping they mean analogous songs but that’s me being hopeful lol
BMTH's lyrics never bothered me. I'm just happy as long Oli isn't screaming about how much he hates religion just for the sake of offense, and instead actually tries to send a message, or be #relatable or whatever the kids are into these days.
Sempi's lyrics honestly bother me the most because they're so inconsistent and immature on what could have been their most mature album.
Some of Sempiternal's lyrics are really good - 'Can you Feel My Heart' and 'Sleepwalking' probably the standouts. He's generally not a very good lyricist though. New song is okay - I really like that bridge part of it but not fussed otherwise.
Yeah his lyrics have always been hit and miss. Just on Sempiternal, you have Can You Feel My Heart, Sleepwalking or Hospital For Souls, which are songs I enjoy the lyrics from, but then you have like Antivist which is cringey.
I did a mini discography listen on my way home from work and couldn't believe the variation on Oli's lyrics with how good AND bad they can be. With Mantra, the lyric about "how to spell epiphany" and the truth pissing you off thing were awkward for me.
I enjoy Doomed, Follow You, What You Need, and Avalanche but That’s The Spirit is still a pretty bad record from these guys. These dudes peaked with There Is A Hell... anyways so I’m just hoping this is better than the last record. It’s not a lot to ask for.
