A little late to the party, but I would currently rank their albums as: There Is A Hell.. That's The Spirit Sempiternal Amo (The rest) Sempiternal/Amo probably switch depending on the day, but There Is A Hell is probably just one of my favorite albums, and I initially hated That's The Spirit, but in the last year or two, it's really grown on me.
Kind of amazing that, aside from the first two records, multiple people list 3-4 different records as their best, all with very different sounds and styles. I think that’s the great part about the EP focus. This EP seems geared at the There is a Hell/Sempiternal crowd. Next one may be more for the Mother Tongue/Medicine crowd. Next one may be for a sound we haven’t heard yet.
I was thinking the same thing. I would be surprised if the next EP was the same style... even though I really want it to be since this is my (realistically) preferred BMTH sound.
I would argue that this EP takes the best elements from Sempiternal and the heavy parts from TTS/amo with still a touch of that electronic flourish
1x1 and Teardrops are probably the best songs they've done. This is fire. That said, I want a whole EP that sounds like Medicine.
Honestly this new album/ep is probably one of the best releases this year for me. They did an amazing job blending Hell/Sempiternal with Spirit/Amo here which will please old and new fans. Linkin Park gets a huge call back on Raindrops and it’s one hell of a banger. This will definitely be on heavy rotation.
Dear Diary and Teardrops are the best tracks IMO. I used to dig Parasite Eve but now I kind of wish it was taken off.
I love the bounce of Medicine but it's a bit "soft." It's like the guitars and especially the percussion don't hit the same way they do on Teardrops. Yet when you hear it live (they were the second to last show I saw before COVID), it's just a wall of sound. A bit sped up, but biting. If they could write something that poppy/hooky like Medicine but with the production of Teardrops, that's the holy grail.
Awesome! I am still one of those idiots who waits for release day for ALL records. Especially ones from bands that are highly anticipated and are getting great reviews whose work I already love, which is a trifecta of checks for me and BMTH. But I'll be on Spotify at 11:01 Thursday night, with a Miller Lite and my best headphones.
For those that have listened to the full thing, which song has the “death scream” on it? I remember watching some of the YouTube videos of them in studio and early on and there was one really heavy song they were working on. I’ll have to find it.
A few songs they teased aren't on this release. I assume we're thinking about this same heavy song as I was looking forward to it. It'll probably be on one of the following EPs.
Yeah seeing what you were all saying about this thing. Its fantastic, might be their best collection of songs since There Is a Hell... for me.
I kinda like their early deathcore stuff, most likely due to high school nostalgia. Even then, I would still admit their post Suicide Season work is a step up
yeah exactly' There Is A Hell is the band firing on all cylinders and nice final chapter to those early years
