I've liked the last three albums so I'm excited to see where this goes. There is a Hell is my go-to "fuck off I've had a bad day" album
I listened to There Is A Hell and Sempiternal the other day I like those albums way more now than any other scene metalcore albums that I used to like at the time
Merged the metalcore scene with anthemic, arena-aspiring sensibilities more than most other albums from that time frame for me. Such fun albums to just throw on
There is a hell is supremely underrated. "Crucify Me" and "Don't Go" make me wish that scene had way more women singing in metalcore bands then, and now
Don't Go and Crucify Me are both some of the best in their discography. Don't think it's a coincidence that those are the two Lights tracks
absolutely, i feel like there were so many elements that made it excellent that could only happen in 2010. skrillex on production before making it huge, lights' vocals, one of the best metalcore riff writers at the top of his game, the band clearly listening to a shitload of post-rock, deftonesy guitar work not being overdone yet etc that + TDWP's with roots are my absolute favorite scene metalcore records
Yea There Is a Hell still blows me away with how heavy yet sophisticated it sounds. They didn't give up anything for that album while still bringing in a ton of fantastic influences in. Not that they've given up anything for their albums past but that one is such a special one. TDWP's Dead Throne is sort of in a similar state for me too, although the direction they went after is REALLY neat. I love all of their albums. For others.....I dunno if Underoath transcends the scene metalcore title but I mean, they would be at the top of the list too if so.
I like every UO song whereas I dislike plenty of BMTH ones, though much of TIAH is definitely top tier metal core. Love how urgent it sounds. Crucify, it never ends, and visions are tops for me. Sempiternal’s lows are better than TIAH I think but those 3 are in my top 3-5 BMTH songs.
I've been listening to everything from Suicide Season on. I forgot how much I liked this band in high school. Grew out my hair, bought a straightener and all. Also, Oli wearing a Michael Jordan jersey at Warped 2010 is still one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Couldn't tell you why.
Sempiternal's lows are pretty blah and TIAH is really consistent, maybe Anthem and Home Sweet Hole are the weakest but they're still songs I get down to. Anthem crushes at the end.
Not to be that guy but I’m totally going to be that guy: There is A Hell >>> Sempiternal > Suicide Season > That’s The Spirit > Count Your Blessings
Alligator Blood and Visions still give me major headaches from all the head banging I still do to them. There is a Hell is simply phenomenal.
They've gotten better with each album and everything pre-There Is A Hell is practically unlistenable.
I still really fuck with Suicide Season, there's something just really satisfying about it to me. There Is a Hell > Sempiternal > Suicide Season > That's the Spirit >>> Count Your Blessings
Sempiternal and There Is... are pretty equal to me. Both astounding achievements, for completely different reasons. Objectively I would have to say There Is... is a much better album, but Semptiternal is the album I’m throwing on when I want to jam out and have a great time.
I have more fun listening to SS than sempi because I'm less conflicted on it haha, don't know how I'd rank them and TTS
Two of my top BMTH tracks, and definitely my favourite album of theirs. They carried over a lot of elements that were introduced with this album, that are still present in their recent material, so that's another reason why I feel it's their overall best, not just as a personal favourite of mine.
while i wouldn't call it radio friendly, sempi perfectly rode that line between metal core and pop/accessibility. too many other bands try that and just end up just making hard rock with grittier vocals.
