My main problem with both this and TTM is at some point, a character does something wildly stupid. Like the mom in TTM lets the main character, who’s been acting erratic and basically caused her son to be possessed, to just be alone in a hospital room with him. In this, the adoption lady is like “What’s this? She’s brutally abusing children and has a dead body in her home? Let’s go check it out without telling anyone else about it because surely the mom is going to be totally chill about this.”
I absolutely loved this, the whole group I went with was speechless walking out. Phillipous have a fantastic career ahead of them, the kid who played Andy was incredible too
how the heck did you convince an entire group of people to go with you to see this, my friends would never haha
majority of us were big Talk to Me fans, the only one who wasn't was a pretty late join to replace someone who got sick and he was curious about it. the Philipous are having a huge moment over here, we love to see Aussie directors making bangers
Tbf they'd established she'd known the Hawkins character for a long, long time and generally didn't trust the kid, so I didn't have a hard time with this. Really enjoyed this as someone who likes their horror movies nasty, mean and under two hours. My favourite part of the screening was when Hawkins punched the sleeping child and a lady in my audience exclaimed "excuse me?!"
I was so immersed in this movie I fully forgot Hawkins is not actually Australian and nor is the kid who played Andy apparently. impressive stuff given how little effort most non-Aussie actors put in when they're doing our accent
The Sally Hawkins role felt like a twisted echo of her character in Mike Leigh's brilliant Happy-Go-Lucky, where she plays a genuinely caring and nice children's teacher.
There’s an ARG dark web site where Laura got the video and there’s a bunch of other videos/things for sale on there. Someone made a thread
Spot on. I mimicked some of her lines on the way home from the theater and freaked out my sister. It's alright love, you can talk to me... give him a kiss... on the lips... it's custom." haha so creepy, great performance.
I enjoyed this movie. Poor Andy, though ): The knife scene wasn’t as bad for me as Ollie breaking his teeth on the counter lol
'Bring Her Back' director Michael Philippou slammed through glass and barbed wire at Mexican wrestling show https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/s/O6rOUhxMSI
Watched tonight. Woooooof. Great film but bleak as all hell and I can’t see ever returning to it. Those Ollie scenes are going to stick with me for a long time.
I recently met Zach Galligan from Gremlins and we briefly discussed how fucked up and incredible this move is haha
