Three piece rock band out of Chico, CA. They formed in 2004, and have released 2 full length albums and 4 EPs. They're not active as far as touring goes these days, but they do release new music from time to time. This will be a good place to discuss their fantastic discography and any upcoming work! The new album, which is self titled, is due out tomorrow.
Just finished a listen of the new record. Not bad, definitely continuing on with the country-pop influence they picked up a while back. The whole mid section of album is great though, really liked the experimenting with synths, electronic drums, and really airy, haunting reverberating guitars. Not blown away by any means, but I can see this being in rotation for a while.
I am not digging the new country influence, but I am sure others will. I still revisit King Vs Queen frequently. One of the best pop rock albums ever.
Yeah, I think they handle the country stuff well, but it always comes across as a little more.... calculated than their older stuff. Like a little too by the numbers. It worked really well for them on Be Human when they first started dabbling with it imo. But yeah, KvQ is awesome, tremendously underrated. Really a shame Victory botched its release and killed their momentum.
Wow, this album is surprisingly awesome for how late in their career it is. His voice is fucking fantastic still
Agree, he has one of my favorite voices in pop rock. Really great control and love the rasp he hits every now and then. Perfect for delivering the melodies he writes.
This new album is awesome. They have very quietly become one of the most consistent bands to ever come out of the scene/scene-adjacent.
Yep, even their older stuff has aged really well. Showed a co-worker Early Love the other day and she loved it, said it's all she's been listening to for a few days now haha.
Acoustic EP out today on streaming services — it’s great. Renditions of cuts from all over their discog. When the orchestral bit kicked in on I’ll Always Be Around my heart immediately melted
I don't generally get excited for "here's out catalog but with acoustic guitars" albums, but this band is an exception. I'm intrigued.
Oh my god, this album is so good I could cry. It really feels like a beautiful gift to their fans for sticking with them.
I haven't ever checked out their Spotify page, but it looks like somewhere between 2011 and 2013 they got the rights to most of their older EPs and uploaded to spotify with new art. The new art calls back to the old art and looks really great! Anyway, found it interesting to see.
Revisiting I'll Always Be Around and it holds up amazingly well. I never thought this band got the credit they deserved.
Brighten - King Vs. Queen Vinyl! Not available quite yet, but looks like it’ll be announced sometime today edit: March 26th it looks like. Their others have gone up at 12 Eastern so I would expect the same
The I'll Always Be Around EP might be my favorite but they're consistently excellent and have been for a long time.
