I feel like half guilty about it cuz there is a large period of national material that’s among my favorite music ever but berninger features are pretty much instant eye roll for me
Yeah the national are one of my favorite bands of all time and I really like matt's other projects, but the song on this album featuring him is a total snooze
I actually loved The Time I Have Left instantly on the headphones, also liked the yelling at the end, though it's maybe cheesy, but it doesn't matter to me sometimes
Apparently Let’s Not Shit Oursleves was on the setlist last night but not played. But the fact that it’s being thought of at all is giving me LIFE.
I was much more into Digital Ash at that age but have grown to appreciate IWAIM because duh. Of course I got the IWAIM side of the tour so I wasn’t that happy but enjoyed the show.
Love them both, Wide Awake gets the slight edge. I love what they did with the companions as well, fantastic all around
Digital Ash has always had my favorite vibe and best best tracks of the two but I’ve kinda always preferred Wide Awake from beginning to end. Not sure I’d call anything on either filler, but there’s a bigger gap in quality between the best and weaker ones on Digital Ash for sure. Saw both tours, Wide Awake was better but Digital Ash was more of a spectacle to see pulled off live.
I'm gonna be so pissed when BE plays One For You as a closer instead of Let's Not Shit Ourselves on my date. One of my least favorite BE songs vs my literal favorite BE song ever. And I've already seen One For You live so many times live already.
I was more into IWAIM. I specifically remember being at the record store as a 16 year old hearing them playing First Day of my Life on the store's speaker and immediately deciding to buy it.
Listening to Digital Urn with adult ears right now, and yeah this one is clearly the better album and it isn't that close either.
I found/fell in love with Lifted in like 2006 and later bought Digital Ash In A Digital Urn at random at Best Buy because I wanted more from the band was was unfortunately definitely not a good enough listener to enjoy that record at the time. I also took my sweet time coming around to I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and ended up not having a strong connection to either (at least, in comparison to Lifted and everything from Cassadega onward). Listening to both back-to-back over the weekend, I think younger me bought the better album and just didn't give it enough attention to appreciate it.
IWAIM is BE at their most straightforward and radio friendly as evidence by that song still being a hit for commercials. DAIAU is where it’s at for the deep cuts and those of us who love that BE.
my intro to be was downloading the curious girl realizes off limewire. copped both discs on release day from best buy and never looked back.
I bought IWAIM and DA the day they came out. I remember immediately falling in love with IWAIM (and it remains an all-timer for me) but it took years for me to appreciate DA. Probably came around to it well after Cassadega was released.
