After listening to all the closers it occurred to me that more often than not they are some of my least favorite songs on the albums. Honestly my favorite closer of his ever is probably Milk Thistle

lime tree road to joy and lets not shit ourselves have arguments as the best songs on their albums imo. i always forget about one for you one for me and consider ladder song the real closer to that album.

For some reason I've never been crazy about Lime Tree, but yeah if Ladder Song was the closer it would be wayyy up there

I gotta say.... hard disagree, doesn't feel like a closer at all to me. Great song but doesn't have any sense of ending or closing. One For You, One For Me absolutely has that closer energy

Seeing One for You, One for Me live multiple times made me appreciate it more. Plus I dig the message behind it:

Hated One For You on first listen since he dropped it as pre-release single like a fool but it’s grown on me hugely since he’s made it a live set closer for years

One For You is one of my least favorite BE songs of all-time.

And I’ve seen it live several times including last Sunday.

    No thanks.

I find it so interesting how many people (mainly in the subreddit) seem to love down in the weeds. I find that album to be an absolute slog, but hey to each their own! I enjoy the kind of deranged energy of peoples key way more

I like dance and sing and Mariana Trench! And Calais to Dover is an example of what my issue with the album is- on paper I should love it but idk I just don’t like how the music sounds all that much, it’s like Cassadaga but way more overwrought and like grating to me for some reason. It sounds like music from like a hallmark movie, idk. But that’s cool other people are into it, and I know some people hate peoples key so it’s all good

People’s Key is the worst, just so little good material after the great first three songs. As much as Collection should probably be last by default, I can’t not give it credit for how good some of those songs are. The companion ep for that one was legit fascinating.

And lifted is the best by a lot though wide awake is relatively perfect in its own right.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I haven't heard the new one yet but I'm oddly not that excited for it? loved Down in the Weeds too, Marianas and To Death's Heart are banner Bright Eyes tracks

I get you. Both LPs have a nice glossy sheen to their sound that is not present on others. It doesn’t bother me on Weeds like it does on Cassadega though.
