Just posting for context, this Reddit post describes what occurred at the Cleveland show: Cleveland show :( : r/brighteyes (reddit.com)
For what it's worth, and it's sad that I have to compare these kinds of things, but I thought he seemed way worse-off back when I saw them in 2022. I know some people in that Reddit said last night was the worst they've ever seen him, but in my opinion, it wasn't half as bad as it was on the Down in the Weeds tour.
Back in 2022 I said I was worried about something happening to him. I am now even more so. Sorry but you don't just make quips about killing yourself two shows running even if it's in keeping with your sense of humour. The guy needs help.
That we're back discoursing about Conor's continued deterioration on stage a little over two years since it happened in the DITW thread indicates a much deeper issue at hand, I think.
Musically, yes. They are still very good. I have never been to a bad Bright Eyes (or BOCC) show (musically). Even last night, with his voice definitely fucked up, I still think they sounded good. It's just the inbetween and the before and after that is quite worrisome.
I had a lucky night in 2022 the one time I saw them because they were excellent and he seemed well put together. Feel like I might hold off on buying tickets to the tour though
I'll wait as long as I have to for him to get his shit together, I'm excited for the album drop but more than a little concerned about his current condition.
Musically i haven't ever thought it affected the performance but I think when I saw them whenever the peoples key era was that was the only time I recall thinking he wasn't banged up bad.
Man that’s heartbreaking. I hope he’s alright. Bright Eyes is a bucket list band for me, but hearing all these stories has me second guessing getting tickets for this tour.
I already have tickets for their European run, but foremostly just want the guy to feel good and safe, sure he'll power through
Man debating on skipping the show now tonight. Dont want to drive four hours for it to be tough to watch
Bright Eyes are supposed to be the last band to play Best Friends Forever Fest in less than a month. If Bright Eyes have to drop out, I wonder what the festival will do. Maybe have The Get Up Kids headline in their place? I feel like The Get Up Kids performing Something To Write Home About in its entirety is a big enough deal to have them play last, but I'm biased.
These are warm up shows for the tour and Conor said he lost his voice because they practiced too much leading up to these shows...my guess is they don't cancel anything and tour goes on as planned but I am also very hopeful Conor chills on the drinking/substance abuse. He seemed to be doing a lot better during the Upside Down Mountain era but that was 10 years ago now.
I probably said something similar to during the last concert, but while I of course hope everyone is Ok and Conor is doing OK, I don't want to assume it to be alcohol or drugs or anything else, speculation isn't good with no evidence. Good or bad, this isn't really new for Conor but I don't want to assume what is going on
When I saw them on the last tour it was really bad, I left during the encore because Conor would not stop rambling and it was getting to be way too late and I wanted to get home.
fwiw i saw them like two years ago and they sounded great and conor had a totally normal show. it's definitely a non-zero type chance of it happening but it also feels like you guys are overstating how often this happens lol
Yeah I remember specifically when this was getting talked about last time a bunch of other people had totally different experiences and it’s weird to assume mental health stuff imo
