The people’s key ones don’t do anything for me. Should left those alone

I finally got around to picking up the companions for Digital Ash, IWAIM, and Fevers. Miiiight spring for the new ones, we'll see.

Feel like that's just how the project goes. I haven't gone back to any of them besides the covers, would be nice to have someone construct and sequence a "best of" playlist though.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

new Coat Check Dream Song is lovely. did not like the first two at all but I'm of the opinion Cassadaga is pretty tough to improve

absolutely terrible version of Machine Spiritual aside, I thought the TPK companion was solid. admittedly not too attached to most of those songs but I thought Jejune Stars, Firewall and Beginner all went pretty hard in the new versions

but yeah Noise Floor is the clear winner here, just some cracking versions of some super underrated songs. Leaving Your Man, Grateful and Motion Sickness are all absolute winners on par with their originals. so happy they decided to do some rarities this time around

just had my first listen of the peoples key companions and they are like 90% awful. sounds like he just got shit faced before recording a machine spiritual. wtf conor.

Hmmm I liked Machine Spiritual it reminds me of “dominos” by Taylor Hollingsworth that was covered for BOCCC..I think he was going for the lo-fi sound on that one.

Some of the hate on these tracks seems unnecessary…they weren’t trying to outdo the album versions but reimagine them in a different light.

Also looks like Reddit confirming what I said previously about middleman companion being older:

“Good ear! Said this in another thread, but Middleman, Soon You Will be Leaving Your Man, and Napoleon’s Hat were all recorded in 2006. I can post photos of all the song credits from the vinyls when I get home later.”

I’m still waiting on my records to show up but I’m intrigued to see the credits for each track.

So weird that only 3 tracks from the whole project are from almost 20 years ago

the recreations of the really early stuff are great. Blue Angels and Falling Out of Love are two of the biggest highlights of the whole project
