So yeah Conor was pretty fucked up by the end. I say that as someone who’s gone out in public in much worse condition than him tho so I’ve got about twenty years of living like a Cub Scout ahead of me before I could even consider judging someone’s substance use

He rambled plenty between songs and occasionally missed some lyrics to older songs but it’s not like he was not up to the task of performing or something. Opened the encore with Ladder Song and it was just him on piano and a sax player and he sounded great with no band behind him—and was clearly sloshed by then

Obviously we want him to be safe and healthy. But re the stage thing, dude does like to dance around spastically in front of the monitors, sometimes with his eyes closed lol. There’s more to that story than just tipsy loss of balance I bet

anyway the show ruled, shout-out to the 14 piece band that all crammed themselves onto the stage of the pageant. Glad we got a couple old ones they just play every other show (Arianette and We Are Nowhere) and the easy/lucky/free closer was awesome.

I wish he would ditch the One For You, One For Me closer. One of my least favorite BE songs and such a lackluster closer.

Seeing as switching off every night, that's the one I'm gonna get on Saturday. Ugh.

Respectfully disagree - it's a great way to end the set with everyone singing "It's one for you, and one for me" at the end with Conor. You might change your mind about it after seeing it live if you haven't before.

  8. I also thought it was fun when I saw it but I like the song in general

  9. They way he introduced it in Chicago, it sounded like a particularly important song to him and to the band, so I was kind of surprised they don't always close with it. I think it's a fine song, but they've got far better closers in their arsenal. "Road To Joy" is right there.

I like the song but theres a crazy amount of songs that id prefer they close with. I wanted easy/lucky/free so bad.

    I have. In 2011.

The encore was Gold Mind Gutted, which is an epic encore for the band to come out to with Conor coming out last and then they played Road to Joy which was BONKERS and I'm thinking to myself, this is the best encore of all time and then he closed with One For Me, and everyone I was with, including myself, thought it was such a buzz kill after the epic-ness of Gold and Road to Joy.

Mediocre song imo, but there are more songs I don’t like post cassadaga than ones I do so it’s a losing proposition to begin with.

maybe this time, I won't be alright Supporter

three years ago it didn't seem like this band was ever coming back so setlist gripes are wild, to me

though I also would like to know where the fuck they're hiding Road to Joy tbh

It’s one of my least favorite Bright Eyes songs for sure, but that live video is cute. I’m just so happy to be seeing them for the first time, BE have been my favorite band for 15 years

As a fan who considers Peoples Key the band’s best LP, I’m hearing all this hate for One for You…and over here wondering “how did we get so far away from us? “

Haha yea, I get that a lot. But I got into BE mid career (Wide Awake) & really don’t care for the earlier releases.

Fair enough and while I’m ride or die for Fevers and Mirrors I get that to an extent. But imo there aren’t more than a few records anyone has made in the last few decades better than I’m Wide Awake…so wrapping my mind around the fact that you prefer Peoples Key is taking some doing haha

Wide Awake is close second. And they’re neck & neck really. But I just like the “rock” version of BE slightly more. Especially when paired with lyrics about spiritual unity. Plus, it’s got Jejune Stars.
