Listening to Horrible Crows right now. Still A+. Sleepwalkers is my favorite thing Brian has done, but HC is right up there with it. Need it on vinyl!
There is no Gaslight/Brian/Crowes that I don’t listen to on a regular basis. Really looking forward to adding Local Honey to that list.
Totally agree! Morelands first couple solo albums were more rock n’ roll, almost Americana/Social Distortion and him and Brian have evolved into more singer/songwriter, which is great and I think it’s half, they’ve both played a lot of solo shows and other half influences from growing up and from being on the road with an eclectic mix of artists. Moreland truly is a diamond in the rough, and should be bigger than he is. I feel like at some point Brian will have a side project with louder guitars, and it won’t be Gaslight but a new band. The inner Pearl Jam in him will want to come back out. As for solo Brian, I think moving forward it will be more In the veins of the new track.
I hope Brian keeps up with the musical variety in his career. I don’t care if it’s different projects or whatever, I just hope he doesn’t settle into one style because he’s good at so many. The Americana Folk genre is really saturated. I am eager to hear Brian’s album and I’m sure it will be fantastic. Seems like where he was headed for a next record. He kinda started going there with some Get Hurt b-sides, Molly and The Zombies and some songs on Painkillers. I really do love appreciate the upbeat electric guitar driven stuff too, whether it be Painkillers, Crowes or full out Gaslight. I feel like “A Wonderful Life” encapsulates Brian solo. I do hope the new album has some upbeat stuff too. Maybe doing an 8 song Americana album covers what he wanted to do there.
I thought Painkillers to Sleepwalkers was a very pleasant surprise. Also, what wrong with wishful thinking? This idea is sort of inspired by the fact Brian has switched it up more than once, like doing Gaslight records, then come out with the Crowes Elsie, or the acoustic Handwritten b sides.
Yeah, it was the second single from sleepwalkers that was the closer. The opener was the lead single for the last two records
Leftandleaving beat me to it, but yeah, I guess the closer wasn't the leadoff single but it was definitely a pre-release single with Sleepwalkers. I think it's a strange move moreso based on the type of songs / closers that they are, being soft, tender acoustic ballads.
Agreed, and I’ll take it a step further and say I wish Brian didn’t always release openers as singles too
I dont mind closers being released early. I'm much more likely to skip the first song because I've heard so much, than the last.
Nice! Any Brian is great. I do think most fans like us have really enjoyed how he keeps throwing new sounds at us while still all feeling very Brian Fallon. I give him major credit that.
Well they did do a ‘59 Sound Anniversary Tour, so I wouldn’t rule Gaslight shows out in the future. As for new material, I have no expectations of another Gaslight full length. Sleepwalkers may be as close as we get, and if that’s what we get I am good with that because I love that record.
In recent podcast interviews Brian's done, it clearly sounds like there won't be any new Gaslight material for a long while. His reasoning is totally understandable - he, nor the other band members, don't wanna half ass anything. It's like after Fugazi disbanded (yeah i'm comparing Gaslight to Fugazi, oops) and they all expressed a desire to wait until the time feels right to be together creating new music. It's been almost two decades for that band so we'll see how long Gaslight holds out, haha
It’s kind of nice that they didn’t just start replacing members, or just mail it in. I do wish for their sake, that the last thing Gaslight released wasn’t a little more positive like most of their discography (although I do love Get Hurt so it’s not a knock on the album). New stuff post Gaslight has all been great too. I thought it would have been fun if they recorded some kind of a single when they did their anniversary tour, but if it’s not gonna happen don’t force it.
Gaslight can take as long as they want. i think the eclectic styles of all their post-Gaslight projects is gonna result in a real rich writing session whenever it happens and we will get something very special. i just really got into Mercy Union this month because they released a killer Strike Anywhere cover and im a fuckin' nostalgic mark for anything SA related and that's been a good time.
I always assumed it was because of Brian's divorce from Alex's sister. I'm sure there's lots of awkwardness/tension between the 2 of them.
