'59 Sound Elsie American Slang Sink or Swim Sleepwalkers Handwritten Painkillers Local Honey Get Hurt
Local Honey ultimately ended up just feeling kinda slight to me... I really haven't had a desire to go back to it much at all since it came out. I think I even forgot about it for a while. This has never happened to me with anything else Brian Fallon has released before. I suppose this could be chalked up more to the sheer amount of amazing releases last year than a reflection of the quality of the album itself, but a Brian Fallon release has dominated the year for me musically whenever he has put something out across any of his various projects, and this is the first one that hasn't done that for me probably since 2010. (I don't think I even knew about Gaslight until after '59 Sound had come out.) Sink or Swim is certainly their roughest from a production standpoint, but that has never bothered me even in the slightest. I don't think I can agree that it is their worst. I have honestly cycled through all 5 of their albums being my favorite at one point or another. Depends on how I am feeling and what I am into at the time I suppose. I think if I tried to objectively rank his albums, I'd end up putting Sink or Swim and all of Gaslight's output, along with Elsie, above his solo albums, but even that doesn't really feel right and seems unfair to his solo albums.
Handwritten is just gaslight on autopilot imo. It doesn’t provide anything different or more interesting than the previous two
Get Hurt has good songs that sounds awesome when they come on shuffle. As a play-through, it feels kinda disjointed.
1. 59 sound 2. Get Hurt 3. Elsie 4. Handwritten 5. Sink or Swim 6. American Slang 7. Sleepwalkers 8. Painkillers 9. Local Honey
It starts off strong for sure – can’t disagree with that. I just don’t think it keeps up the quality of the first couple tracks
besides Get Hurt, Handwritten might be the GA album i come back to the least. besides a few great songs, that album ended up doing absolutely nothing for me.
How can any album that ends with the run of Blue Dahlia - Mae - National Anthem be considered front-loaded though...???
Handwritten, Mulholland, Mae, Too Much Blood, Blue Dahlia i dont like the album version of Biloxi bc the demo was so so so so much better
American Slang is probably the one I come back to most for casual listening bc it is chock full of great riffs
Lol right? It's all really really good to pretty good so i don't really have a ranking. My only hot take is When We Were Young is perfect and I don't care how good She Loves You is, I'm glad it's a B-side. Also the recorded version of Have Mercy is without a doubt not a finished product because their live versions are infinitely better
They way he sings “and they were brothers to me” on keepsake is maybe the best part of any gaslight song.
i don’t think it’s all very good. the last two solo albums and the last two gaslight albums aren’t good
