His Insta lives are so good. The Sittin Round At Homes are brilliant and he’s done a bunch of others on other accounts as well.
Took a break from Local Honey and just returned to it this week — still a beautiful comfort blanket of an album. Hard Feelings is a first ballot hall of fame Fallon track. The “where troubled lovers run away and bleed for a while, in poems about Jersey girls...” part of Lonely for You Only still gives me goosebumps.
It's a great album. Like others have said, it's odd to have an album with no bangers though. All of these 8 songs are good but I'd prefer to have them mixed in with some up-tempo stuff. For that reason I think I'll listen to this as a whole less than the other albums, but the songs individually are all terrific as usual. I also now understand why it's an 8 song album instead of 11-12.
Yeah his Instagram lives have been very, very enjoyable. He just finished one up with Lauren Denitzio from the band Worriers. This is a band I’ve never checked out and their new album out earlier this month is freakin’ fantastic.
I haven’t been familiar with any of Brian’s guests from Sittin Round At Home and I’m still absolutely enthralled by these episodes. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve heard of them but have never listened to their music (I’ve since checked them out). Crazy as it sounds, I’m to the point where I’m hoping they don’t even actually play music (although that’s great too) because the conversations are so good that I don’t want them to stop talking about their creative process or their songwriting or the behind the scenes stuff that we don’t normally get to hear about from musicians. Just brilliant stuff.
Pretty bummed his solo stuff doesn't really grab me anymore. I've listened to this twice and have no desire to go back to it.
Still love this record, but I still wish there were at least two or more songs considering he said he wrote so many. Even if they didn't fit on Local Honey, maybe some kind of bonus EP or something. I find I'm listening and enjoying and I feel like "on no it's already over".
I believe he said there were four more he finished in the studio, but they didn’t fit at all with this record (they were louder). So it does feel like he could easily release those as a side thing or just save them for a future project.
Damn, Brian was on Humans of Music podcast and he talks about wanting to quit music before making Local Honey and talked to his wife about returning to construction. Crazy. And kind of depressing at the same time.
Yeah, I have never once felt like it was too short. I prefer "Oh wow, Is it over already?" albums to "Oh my god, how is this thing still going?" albums 100 percent of the time.
Yeah, it was a pretty bleak podcast, but very earnest and honest. Said some things I've heard before about basically being miserable with Gaslight during and everything after Handwritten and how he struggled very much with the pressure, depression, anxiety, etc. Definitely worth a listen.
Just picked up the honey gold version from my local shop and it sounds so good on the turntable. Also very much appreciate the sequencing of this thing when’s it’s split between two sides.
