Vincent holy shit Update: “Lonely for you only... To call me up and take me for a ride Where troubled lovers run away and bleed, for a while In poems about Jersey girls they knew in another life Long before you and I were born” Wow this is good
My vinyl is somewhere between Des Moines and my house. I still haven't listened to any of the pre-release singles, so I have eight new Brian Fallon songs to listen to soon!
Can’t believe I’ve not heard a single note of this record, given how long the rollout has been. Tough one to ignore for so long. Waited this long, so I’ll wait for the official release tomorrow. Very excited!
Still think You Have Stolen My Heart is the best track on the album. Wish he didn't pre-release it though, first listen through and reaching this as the closer would have been extraordinary. Bravo on the album as a whole though,
“Hard Feelings” and “Lonely for You Only” are top two for me after a few listens. That Hard Feelings chorus is so good. The last 45 seconds of “Lonely” makes me feel like I’m fuckin floating. This album is just a big warm social distance-respecting hug. The best lyric on the album for me: “Maybe some day we’ll get used to all this rain Tumbling like the money through my hands. And maybe they’ll call and say ‘we’ve made a big mistake’, And you and I, we’ll get our wings.” So beautiful. I’m sure a lot of people will feel the same, but the way things have been lately, my first thought after finishing this was “This is what I needed right now.”
This is wonderful. Much more subdued than Sleepwalkers though. Also, Brian is on Going Off Track today. #307 - Brian Fallon — Going Off Track — Overcast
I had my AirPod Pros on this morning while listening to this and I also had that same feeling of floating during “Lonely”. It was wild. And I’m not sure who did drums and percussion on this album, but whoever it is, it’s killer.
While I wish they hadn’t released 4 singles (or, I wish I’d had the self-control some of you strong folks have), 8 songs is the perfect length for this album. There’s definitely variation between songs, but without the upbeat rockers or anthems, I’m not sure he’d be able to sustain the cohesive feel for 12 tracks without songs feeling same-y. I’d always want more Fallon songs, and the album certainly leaves me wanting more but in a good way. These 8 songs feel like a complete statement. While I won’t go comparing it to other records, this one feels like the strongest body of work he’s made in a long while. On Painkillers and Sleepwalkers you could see the seams a bit — both records had moments of trying for one sound or another but not going all in. This feels like he had a specific mood he was going for and he nailed it.
ALSO some of his dates got rescheduled. we took July 13-17 off for a random staycation and beach bum week and the Town Hall date got put on July 15! so perfect so thrilled
I'm a HUGE Gaslight & Brian Fallon solo fan. But this is super boring IMO. Every song sounds the same as the last. With the other 2 albums he had more upbeat catchy choruses and different instruments. I just don't get what he was going for here.
I’ll probably check this out tonight! I have only listened to the first single. I’m like pretty excited as Brian is my favorite artist, but for some reason this is the least excited I’ve been for new Fallon related music.
haha we took the week before off for the same exact thing but i might push it back a week so this lines up with it
If it helps, I was on record in here being super underwhelmed by the first single (and a little nervous about how on-the-nose the track titles sounded), but I really love this. “You Have Stolen My Heart” is still my least favorite and it’s the only spot where the suuuuper sweet lyrics are just too syrupy for me. But there’s some of his best work ever on here IMO (I’d include “21 Days” in that, so props to you for not having listened to any of the other singles yet).
This is how I feel about it. After just a few listens I think this is my favorite Brian Fallon solo album, but it could just be that it came at the right time. Also, as a parent, that first song hit me right in the feels.
i really think the bizzarely long roll-out is what has curtailed my excitement for this, i straight up forgot it was even coming for a while until i saw a new song pop up on my phone.
Brian is taking over the @americansongwriter instagram today and will be doing a live Q&A and performance there at 6 oclock (ET, presumably)
I’m just a 26 year old dude with no kids and the delivery of “I hope they cheer you up like crazy, sweep you right up off your feet” made me tear up. Sent it to my brother who just had his first kid and it wrecked him.
