The latest songwriter I want to buy stock in early. She just got listed in Stereogum’s Best New Artists column and it reminded me that I hadn’t made a thread. Brennan Wedl is a dizzying talented country/rock artist who has all the songwriting and sonic chops to be a big favorite around these parts. She’s a twentysomething Nashville resident who makes songs about the burning build-up of feelings, with these big releases that happen right in the chorus. Her voice has a hint of Lucinda Williams grit in it, but she also makes these hooky guitar riffs that have a bit of an Alex Lahey feel to them. Most importantly, her music has that ineffable spark that makes me want to throw it on loop. Debut record coming 2025. I’ll change this to an album thread when it gets announced.
so excited for this! instant preorder. the smallest bit scared about how "Scorpio" and "Two Dollar Pistol" are going to sound re-recorded as the original versions are among my favorite songs of the decade. at the same time, so happy to finally own them on vinyl.
