More than that. I didn’t really listen on Tuesday. I listen to this one at 1.25x. I have three hours of every shift where I can listen while handling shipment and I have a 40 minute commute.
Holy shit...why didn't I realize this was coming out? I thought the release date was next year for some reason. I need to get to a bookstore.
Oathbringer end of Part One BIG SPOILER: JASNAH!! Obviously she was going to play a role in this book based on the cover but I'm really glad she's back in the fold already (hopefully, unless this is a swerve).
Dalinar’s flashbacks are so vastly different to Kal’s and Shallan’s. It’s amazing how Sanderson can balance everything.
Spoiler from part two: Rock reuniting with his family made me cry. Don’t listen to audiobooks at six am without enough coffee.
Oh yeah, I forgot that was another one of Lift's things, lol I'm super behind, Amazon shipment came late and I just haven't had a lot of time. Hopefully bite a chunk out tonight.
Mercifully, I just concluded. The climax was actually really enjoyable. And then that last bit about there only being 9 types of pancakes and not 10 came as one last swift kick to my ears. Sigh. Gonna try and begin the new book later tonight! Woo!
Still haven't had a ton of time to really dig in but I've loved what I've gotten to so far. Part Two, spoilers up to Chapter 44: I love how Sanderson isn't sticking to the established structure of the first two books and is playing around with it here - I was glad to see we didn't jump around a ton at the start of the novel, sticking with characters for multiple chapters in a row which was rare in the last two outside of big battles/climaxes. I was surprised to see the character/title page for Part 2's viewpoint characters - Jasnah? BRIDGE FOUR? and it has been excellent so far. Getting a chapter each for major Bridge Four members has really helped to flesh out the already established characters, Rock's chapter in particular was a huge highlight. I liked the little touch of Moash's chapter's heading image having the same picture of the sleeve/shoulder but with the Bridge Four patch ripped off. Shallan dealing with Jasnah's return has been interesting for her character in the little I've seen of that so far as well and the lore just keeps on coming in Dalinar's chapters. Good stuff and I'm only a little over a third through!
A little over halfway now. I have a complaint about Shallan: I hate how she assumes different identities (Veil, Brightness) and acts like it changes her when it doesn't at all. But I've also found Shallan to be my least favorite character in any of Sanderson's works so maybe anything she does I just do not like. Which is saying something when Sarene exists.
Not really a fan of this either, though the way things are going I think/hope her character arc for the book is realizing that they're all just Shallan. I don't hate her but off the top of my head she still might be his weakest protagonist.
Monster spoiler for about 65% in: Of course Wit/Hoid shows up with some huge ass Cosmere bombshells in a Shallan chapter.
Holy shit. (Ch. 76 - last chapter of part 3 of the audiobook) The Blackthorn burning the city to the ground and Evie in it. Woooooooooooow.
Lol same. I’m on chapter 12, I believe. Yet i keep checking in only to find black text that I dare not reveal!
Part 5 starts on chapter 100. Trying to finish this before Black Friday week (I work retail) really kicks off has meant the last two days have been lots of sitting and listening. It's so great.
I haven't read any more since my last post and I wanted to finish this by Thanksgiving since I usually talk the latest fantasy books with a couple of my cousins every year.
Still very very slowly picking at this, losing hope of my previous goal. Anyway just had to get this off my chest somewhere, end of Part Two MAJOR SPOILERS HOLY SHIT ODIUM WHAT THE FUCK...and then goddam Lift
Only at the beginning of Part 2, going to have a lot of time to read the next few days. Need help with a question that I'm afraid to google in case there are Oathbringer spoilers. I feel dumb for not remembering him but there's just a blank spot. Who is Moash and what happened to him? I think I'm confusing him with Marsh from Mistborn (just because of the name) and that's really screwing me up.
Bridge Four member, closest thing to a friend to Kaladin, WoR spoilers: worked with the Ghostbloods and attempted to recruit Kaladin and assassinate Elhokar. Kaladin gave him a shardblade he earned in the 4v1 duel he helped Adolin with, and later on Kaladin decided not to participate in the assassination plot and confronted Moash, sending him into exile towards the end of the book.
