Soooooo the prologue plus first ten chapters of The Lost Metal are available as Read Now on NetGalley: The Lost Metal | Brandon Sanderson | 9780765391209 | NetGalley
I got my passes for Dragonsteel Con even though I'm not positive I'll be able to attend. I'm moving in late August so I need to make sure I can afford all that. I'm guessing we'll get some type of adaptation news this year. I'm very excited for the Cosmere to reach an even wider audience.
You know, this is the first time I've ever been tempted by something like this. I almost never read advance chapters or anything like that because I prefer to just get the book and read straight through at release or whatever. But I might be swayed over the next few months for this...
Some points about adaptations from the livestream: Brandon talks about not selling options but selling rights. People he’s talked to are wanting to start production 6-8 months after purchase. Should be active production next summer. Announcement in the coming months.
Based on SotS talk it's presumably the Mistborn movie? I'm so excited to see any of his work adapted. This thread also reminds me that I should probably start on my Wax and Wayne rereads soon.
I think Alloy of Law is still free through TOR! EDIT: Still free here: Download Brandon Sanderson’s The Alloy of Law — Before August 6! until August 5, 11:59 PM ET
Before he went into his entire spiel for the movies he said "For Mistborn." He confirmed Stormlight is coming as well though and said the budget will be big enough that it will fit his vision for Roshar. They'll digitally remove plants as needed, etc. He also said they'll film the shattered plains in Utah.
Serves me right for not watching the video but hey my Mistborn assumption was right lol Stormlight always seemed like an iffier proposition in live action - all the spren alone seem like a nightmare to get into live action (as noted, did not watch the video yet if he mentions it) but hey, if Sando think it can work, I trust him.
Spren were actually mentioned and he said he wanted to make sure they didn't look like Looney tunes but the budget is good enough that he's confident they'll figure it out.
I swear being an aspiring writer is just a constant stream of low-level rage as ideas, names, and concepts are stolen from you right and left by better writers... haha. That said, the game looks cool, and I think the vibe really fits with some of his worldbuilding stuff, so it makes sense. If the game ever ends up on a console I'll check it out.
Extremely not my style but good for him. And on the names thing, it's very true as an aspiring writer. Every name I've ever wanted to use has been used in Magic the Gathering lol
Realistically, it shows that good writing wins out. Cool names are cool, but you're always going to have overlap with other stories, and that's freeing—not every word of your story has to be completely unique and fresh and original. But at the same time, boy is it frustrating to see a name I came up with 15 years ago suddenly become super popular among fantasy readers because somebody else got to use it first, haha.
*cry face* If you’re in the fence about using it, I’d say go for it. If anything, double down on the usage lol
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/brotherwise/stormlight-premium-miniatures I do not have $175/$475 to spend right now, but my word, I love these.
Holy shit man. Have they shown the large scale one yet? If I'm going to spend $300 on something I would really like to see it first. Right now I'm in at the $175 tier but I could be convinced go to the $475 tier.
