Just Way of Kings from what I saw. Barnes & Noble has a table where they're selling a lot of books; they mentioned that Sanderson's people are mostly busy running the event so they're focused on Cytoverse merch/books at their exhibit, but I did see a few copies of the WOK leatherbound. You want me to pick you up one? :P
Haha yeah I'm in the market for the others too. I should probably wait until after Christmas, but if I see them here, I probably won't. I did grab two of the Herald prints from Howard Lyons, those are super cool. And a variety of merch and stuff.
Oh really? Welp, that's what I'll be doing on Monday then, haha. The rest of the family is getting free stickers for Christmas.
I'm glad Sanderson didn't cram Spensa into a school setting again. I'm really digging the whole vibe of this third book, very different from the first two, which might anger fans who wanted more of the same.
Did you read the novellas? I feel like I need to re-read the first two and the novellas before I can read Cytonic.
I did not, I only found out about them recently. I was hoping they'd go on sale at some point. And yeah, a reread would not hurt, I feel like I have a good grasp on the first book, but I forgot a lot about the second and they're throwing around a lot of names that I just do not remember. The main story, thus far, feels much more stand alone, so it's still been easy enough to follow.
@Vivatoto @Garrett I'm only like ten pages into Cytonic, but I did read a chapter-by-chapter recap of Starsight before I began, and it was super useful; I remembered the main stuff but there were a lot of little details I'd forgotten that I'm sure are going to be important. I'm definitely going to do a full series reread before Defiant comes out. I did just finish reading the first two novellas though. They're great, and I definitely recommend them. At the con Brandon mentioned that you won't be majorly spoiling anything if you don't read them before reading Cytonic, but that reading them will answer some questions that'll probably pop up; similarly, if you don't read Evershore (third novella, releasing in December) before Defiant, you might be kinda confused, and if you haven't read any of the novellas before Defiant, you'll be missing a chunk of the story that would be useful to have. The three novellas will be packaged in a single volume in like February/March too. Oh, and while the four books in the Skyward series will be the conclusion of Spensa's arc, Brandon wants to have more stories set in that world with side characters and such, and he's planning to continue to collaborate with Janci Patterson for future novels/novellas post–Defiant, which I think will be neat.
Brandon quit writing YA series challenge. I know they’re a palette cleanser, but still. There’s too much Cosmere to go still. I know we’re getting W&W4 and Defiant next year. That means we’re getting Stormlight 5 in 2023. I think he’s doing the third Mistborn trilogy between S5 and S6. Elantris 2 in there somewhere. Isn’t there also like two more planets we’ve not gotten to, yet?
Brandon has a lot of people working on books with him which is why he is able to turn out a lot more. I haven't read Cytonic yet but we are getting Wax & Wayne 4 soon and i can't wait!
I ended up just getting The Final Empire for now. That doesn't seem quite as reckless as buying all three books for myself this close to Christmas. Definitely going to get them eventually though. Man I like books.
I talked myself out of it only because my mom’s 60th birthday is in January and what she wants is more than the books, haha. I plan to own them one day as well.
Cythonic fuckin ruled. The big ideas and answers to questions that Sanderson is known for. I'm guessing I see why reading the novellas first would have helped, only really for a specific moment though. Also, this is weird, and totally not my first misprint, but page 406 suddenly turns into page 375 and which reprints the last like 30 pages. Curious if that happened to anyone else who got the hardcover. It kinda fucked me up because I felt a decent chunk of pages left in my hand when the book ended. EDIT: Oh fuck. On closer inspection my book jumped from page 342-375 the first time...I knew I was missing something, there was like a huge reveal that I kept going back to find and couldn't find it. Well that sucks lol
I missed all the big reveals, lol. I was able to put it together, I knew something was off. Wasn't gonna bother contacting Amazon, but I'd like to read those pages.
