and for the last bit of Sanderson news for the year, State of the Sanderson: State of the Sanderson 2017 | Brandon Sanderson September 2018: Stephen Leeds/Legion Collection November 2018: Skyward Fall 2019: Wax and Wayne 4 Sometime 2019: Skyward 2 Sometime 2020: Stormlight 4 Sometime 2020: Skyward 3 Pretty much what he's been saying for a while but swapping Apocalypse Guard for Skyward He also mentioned he wants to have a Stormlight novella titled Wandersail out before 4.
Anyone ever read The Rithmatist? It's only 3 bucks on Kindle right now. I read some of his other YA (the reckoners) and enjoyed it.
I was going to grab this then I saw the paperback is 3.37 with prime shipping so I just did that. We'll see how it goes, I'm not expecting to love it.
I just got the first 3 Mistborn books for Christmas. I'm definitely looking forward to delving into these.
I’m about to finish up my re-read of Warbreaker. Not sure what to do next. I was planning on just running through the Cosmere books again. But I might finally start on the Fifth Season or the Grace of Kings. I eventually want to read through the kingkiller chronicle books again, too.
I've got the first two Ken Liu books on Audible for sometime early next year. Just finished the Broken Earth trilogy earlier this month. I'd love to discuss either with you. For all the hype, Fifth Season really let me down.
After looking through some reviews, I think I’m going to try Grace of Kings next. It sounds like it will be in my wheelhouse. Hopefully, I will get to start it sometime this weekend. I’m still going to try and re-read the cosmere stuff in 2018. I might try to alternate a cosmere book with something else. And maybe I’ll finally feel the urge to return to WoT.
I promised a couple friends to read a few books, but I'll try to get Grace of Kings soon. What book did you stop on?
The last 200 pages of Winter's Heart is my second favorite sequence of the entire series (and what makes book ten simultaneously be every other plotline basically catching up for 1000 pages, oops).
You guys got me interested in Grace of Kings. Ordered that and the first Shannara book (which I know nothing about)
I forgot to tell you that I finished White Sand vol 1! It was great! I wasn't sure how I felt at first, since in the beginning, the entire setting is in white sand, with white people, wearing nothing but white. I thought it was an odd choice for a medium so visual. As the world and the characters grew more diverse I enjoyed it more and more, though it was tough to keep up with, it all made sense in the end when everything came together for that cliffhanger. I'll definitely be picking up the second one when it comes out.
FINALLY finished The Way of Kings. Loved every bit of it. The first 3/4s feel so slow, but thinking of them almost strictly as character development made the last 4th of the book so fantastic. A great climax, really rewarding. Can't wait to delve into the next books (though I may take a break to read something else in order to avoid burnout.)
I don’t say this lightly but Words of Radiance is one of the best fantasy novels published this millennium (maybe ever?)
That’s interesting, because i think WoK is my favorite by a considerable margin. And then I think WoR and Oathbringer are fairly even. I’d probably put Oathbringer a little higher, maybe? So it looks like I’m the odd one out. Edit: ok, after thinking about it some more, I don’t think Oathbringer is above WoR. That’s most likely recency bias. I think it’s much more likely that I’d rank them in chronological order.
What's everyone's opinion on Warbreaker? Seems like a lot of people advise reading it before WoR, but not sure how necessary that is/how much it enhances the experience of WoR.
I really, really like it. Absolutely read it before Words of Radiance. It's not required but there are a few things that will be more satisfying with knowledge of that book.
