As much as I'm excited for the Cassino album, I kind of feel like I know what I'm going to get already. I love Nick's lyricism and the instrumentation is right up my alley, but I doubt any of it really surprises me, ya know? Plus I'm not big on that 6-song half-and-half release. I'd almost rather wait until the whole record is out, even though there's no timeline or evidence that it will be a better listen that way vs broken in half. Just seems like a weird way to consume the music.

Brand New is my favorite band for so many reasons. They're why I ended up on chatting on sites like this in the first place. They put out four records that all connect very very clearly with different times in my life. They expanded my music and lyrical horizons in a number of ways. Even if LP5 doesn't have the same effect, or the years of hype end up leaving me cold (fat chance), I'm way more excited for that record.

It can handle ALAC, which is just Apple Lossless.

I'm just not near a computer to put it in iTunes and then sync my phone.

 

Yeah, it's a lyric etching but there's no guarantee it's all the lyrics. Then again, the only good reason it would be a 12" instead of a 7" would be to have room for all the lyrics...here's hoping.

 

Official site has been updated with the same aesthetic as the single artwork. Apologize if that has been said.

 

It was updated yesterday. The merch store being empty is new for today though. I guess it's just adding the single and maybe some merch related to the single artwork.

 

iTunes can play ALAC. It literally is Apple Lossless quality.

 

I haven't seen enough mentions of the bass, which RULES.

Garrett is criminally underrated. The bass is such an integral part of Brand New's music, particularly Daisy.

 

He owns Jaws Theme Swimming and Bought A Bride

 

Wasn't he on about TDAG so no?

 

And getting bad marks.

 

I'm always amazed at how hard people can be on the lyrics for Bed (a top 10 Brand New song for me) yet don't even blink at "you're so good at talking smack, you heart attack."

For the record, I think the lyrics for both songs are fine/great.

 

Lyrics are usually the last thing I critique an artist on. I tend to care more about the melody and the vocals themselves and how those are used in conjunction with the song.

 

Also bad.

 

Same. I can certainly recognize bad lyrics, but they rarely can spoil a song for me.

 

They can break a record for me. I listened to that Turnover record "Perihpial Vision" and I didn't mind it musically, some of the melodies were really catchy... But man, the lyrics are just so so cheesy it really turned me off to listen to it again

 

I love the lyrics on that album.

 

Yeah I think a lot of repeated instances of cheesy lyrics in a song or on an album can certainly break it for me. I haven't listened to their new album, but that last Modern Baseball album was unbearable to me.

For a more relevant example, I've seen people critique the lyrics in the bridge to Sink, but, personally, the lyrics have never once bothered me.

 

Oooo. Good call on the "conceded" and "their" pieces. I like those interpretations better.

I still don't hear "saved thief" though. Guess we'll have to wait for the lyrics page to come out. See you when we're 70.

 

I think it's "second theif" being referenced, the one who didn't accept Christ at the crucifixion.
