  2. I disagree with the comparison. It's not really that fast, it's not very catchy, and it's not very strong. I don't see the resemblance to the stronger, longer, better thought out choruses on YFW. I just don't see anyway they relate.

"Chorus still screams YFW to me, though." - I disagree, adamantly. I see nothing YFW in this chorus besides the same people wrote it some two decades apart.

  3. Huh? That's literally the joke of the song ... haha, that they don't believe in filler, and literally wrote a filler song. Haha.

Haha, wait, is that actually what the song is about?

No one sleeps til we get this shit out on the shelves, if I could I'd sit this out, my voice has gone to hell, one more sleepless night because we don't believe in filler, etc... Sounds like it's a song about forcing themselves to write a song. Pretty meta lol

hahaha, yeah... but for some reason i read that statement as directed at me which looking back on it was kind of dumb on my part.

Fair enough. To me it sounds more like YFW than anything else they've done since, while still sounding pretty different/not like it belongs on any of their albums so far.

Brand New did some unheard of things in YFW.

sung about their own band in Mixtape. Jesse drops his own name in Seventy Times Seven. passed the bottle to pete. Jesse vomits fire, which is surprisingly nothing new for him...

Eh, mentioning your own name isn't that weird, especially in the context of quoting someone/something.

Andy Hull does it in How I Waited and it adds a lot to the context of the song.

well no wonder passing the bottle to him made them laugh on that overpass.

I watched the Jude Law video for the first time in a very very long time the other day and was shocked by how much "MADE" clothing there was in there

Going back and listening to previous albums, it almost feels like they just threw this song together. I like the song, don't get me wrong, but it feels weak and doesn't pack the emotional punch that Brand New's material usually has. This song is great in its own context, just weak compared to other releases. Let's just hope the album/ep/whatever has some stronger songs. The optimist in me is hoping they're pulling a Weezer and saving the best songs in the album for the release/time close to release.

Does that make it the worst song though? I think, given that context, the song has pretty clever lyrics, and structurally the song seems a lot more fleshed out than something like Magazines.

All of YFW kinda sucks. But I like Failure by Design, it was basically a song about my time in college :crylaugh:

Having finally listened to this, I have to say this song isn't really up to the very high expectations I have of this band. I don't know what it is but it jut doesn't really do it for me. It might be a grower but that's just my opinion atm. Normally with a brand new release i'd be rushing to order it on vinyl but think I'll be giving this one a miss. I do still have high hopes for the album and the song is alright just not what I was hoping for and I love brand new and everything they've done in the past. Who knows I'll probably be saying I love it after a few more listens, haha

    I love this verse

So come shake your Zen out
    And give me pure energy
My heart is glowing flourescent, I want you to possess it
I’m not a prophecy come true
I’ve just been goddamn mean to you
So what is this thing laced with
    Please don’t replace me
    I surrender, embrace me
    Whatever I'm faced with

The more I listen to it the more I'm really enjoying it. I was the same as a lot here on first listen and was taken aback by how simple it is and clean sounding compared to Daisy and Mene but I'm really getting into it with more listens.
