Yeah it is, but it's more a "let me vent my relationship problems and quote a generic deja lyric" in reality lol

Now I wanna make a Facebook group where you can only make posts that could pass as the chorus of "Degausser."

Brand New not publishing the chorus lyrics for Degausser in Pogolith is literally my favourite thing they've ever done

    Someday I’ll find me Prestigious

I posted this a few weeks ago on my observations of Brand New discussion online:

I've observed that the levels of insanity and lack of levelheadedness increases the more you open the pool of online social interaction.

    Layer One

Chorus FM - Sure we get hyped and freak out, but for the most part we're all just having fun.

    Layer Two

/r/brandnew - Any comment not directly feeding the hype is downvoted, and many comments that point toward rational expectation and reaction being downvoted as well. This isn't @Drewski 's fault. The fandom there is just caught up in a faux-conpiracy. This can often be a good community to interact with, and I hope most of it is people just having fun with it, though I think many are really into the "conspiracy" of it all.

    Layer Three

A Group for Talking Only in Brand New Lyrics - Facebook Group - It's scary in there ya'll.

Alright, im going to try and formulate some of my thoughts. what a crazy day.

Well, im going to start by saying this: Brand New have been my favorite band since i was a kid. this band means a lot to me. i maybe dont show it on this forum as much as i did a few years ago, but i mean it when i say if it wasnt for this band - i wouldnt be into 80% of the music i am now. I wouldnt have even found Absolutepunk (which then lead me to discover literally hundreds of my favorite bands through years of discussion on these forums).

When i first pressed play on this song at lunch today, i honestly was flat out disappointed. if 18 year old me couldve looked into the future and saw 22 year old me hearing a new Brand New song and doing anything less then dropping to my knees and praising the heavens, 18 year old me wouldve punched 22 year old me in the face, and then the balls.
for the past 7 years Daisy has become one of my favorite records of all time. i loved that it was loud, abrasive, polarizing, experimental, and downright strange at times (Be Gone)... Devil and Daisy motivated me to become a fan of so many other albums that are in that vein. Those albums got me seriously into music. Then there is Deja Entendu which introduced me to music i could be passionate about and is essential the soundtrack to the first, pfft, pretty much half of my life.

This band means a lot to me.

For 7 years ive built in my mind what new Brand New would sound like. It would be dark, it would be climactic, the songs would be even longer, and have even more experimentation. - This is what i created in my mind of course... and ive had this image in my mind for 7 years what would come next. from a band whos first 4 releases seemed so unpredictable every time they came out, i thought i finally had it figured out. "okay, Brand New is a band that gets heavier in subject matter, and darker with every release"... so yeah, i was expecting that. Mene was obviously not really that, but whatever.

anyways. ill speed this up. i listened to "I Am A Nightmare" today and thought.... this is it? this is what theyve been writing all this time? a song that if i had to attach to any Brand New album to this point, would probably best fit on Your Favorite Weapon.

i listened to this song like 10 times this afternoon and a few things changed in my mind. somethings stayed the same. i still think: yeah, this song is super straight forward. probably the least impressed ive been with Brand New lyrical content in like... ever.
some really positive thoughts that developed this afternoon though: honestly, i dont need them to put out albums in the vein of Devil or Daisy anymore. i just dont. i have those records. i dont need more. the band did that. even though i was young when those albums came out, i really really really connected with them (i still do - that sentence shouldnt even be in past tense). i do connect with those albums. Those albums are honestly life-changers for me. Brand New... well... pretty much paved my musical taste, which i am ridiculously grateful for. And im so happy theyre writing music they want to be writing.

i guess, its been 7 years since we've got a Brand New record. 7 years. this is not a band that is going to release music if its not music they are pleased with / passionate about. This isnt a band that shows music to its fan base unless they want to play this music on stage for us. Im just so happy this band makes music still. "I Am A Nightmare" is not what i imagined a single from LP5 to sound like - but you know what: good. This band is doing what they want, this band is doing what they believe in, and i owe it to them to believe in that; even if it isnt my favorite song of all time. even if this doesnt end up being my favorite album of all time, or even come close to it. it doesnt have to. theyve already done that. Im happy theyre doing what makes them happy, and i cannot wait to scream these new lyrics right back at them while theyre on stage when i see them in a few weeks - because this is what they want to be doing now, and i respect this band like i do few others.

TL;DR - im luke warm on this track, but still so so so excited about a new Brand New release and still optimistic it will be a great album / ep whaever.

Kind of figured this song would get hate from some corners of the BN fanbase. I really enjoy it. TDAG and Daisy are both fantastic albums but their subject matter is so dark that I need to be in a certain mood in order to listen to them. Glad to finally hear something poppier/happier sounding from them, even if it isn't their "best song ever".

This is my first post on chorus.fm, but I do like the song, even if its pretty straight forward. Its cool finally seeing what Jesse meant when he talked about this release branching off from an earlier sonic point. I'm seeing BN and The Hotelier on back-to-back days in July in NYC and I can't wait to hear this song and all the ones i've always wanted to live! It's my first time seeing them after years of being a fan.

I think he's calling himself a 'nightmare' to emphasise how his wife is a 'miracle'. As in like 'I'm incredibly lucky and don't deserve to have you' which is kind of happy in an self deprecating manner?
