Look, I get it.. dont post unless you read EVERY DETAIL... Meh. Im really sorry guys. I legitimately thought it was one women who said she would dig the photos out of her basement computer if she needed to and that Jesse just put out a statement to cover his ass.

    ...Still like the music though....

well i'm sure glad i've kept myself busy tonight, i've been through enough of these conversations that i'm glad to have missed one

more like "dont weigh in with a controversial stance until youve read every detail, also dont keep defending that controversial opinion once youve been proven wrong"

also drop the sympathy act. dont paint this as if youre the victim here. a simple "ok i understand now ty" wouldve gone a long way. instead you insist on posting little jabs here and there like the last sentence in this post. if you dont have the maturity or desire to engage in these discussions, then dont.

not my intention of my post, you know that. no reason to fight here when you know what side i'm on

believe me, i'm more than happy putting these fights on me so the people who have to deal with horrible men talking down at them every day can have one fewer battle to fight

real talk though it’s cool to get in the habit of looking for answers on your own/doing your own research on this sort of topic, or honestly any topic - there’s so much info available on the internet in general that the answer to pretty much any question you have is there if you search for it right. imo figuring out what that way is is one of the most useful life skills there is

so true. or like, you know, realizing when even if sometimes you have an opinion you know is "controversial", it might be better to just not say it, knowing it could be offensive to someone. just all about thinking, we're not telling you not to listen to brand new but it might not be the time to mention why you feel that way

Ok, just approach the topic better next time. You didn't seem like you were coming in here in good faith. Nobody wishes for you to fade into darkness or to have anxiety.

I hope you've learned some stuff on here, and if you'd like some links or resources on this, you can ask.

Unfortunately, I can think of some reactionary and dishonest websites and articles people will stumble into when researching, so there's that issue as well

You’re definitely right, it does no good if the info people find is incorrect. I think evaluating the reliability of what you find online is as important as finding it in the first place, for sure.

I do wish there was more of an emphasis on learning about common patterns of deception online, or (wishful thinking) how websites & the internet work in general. There are so many ways to fake sites and cheat systems to make them say/do what you want (see: Facebook and the election ads).

the hypocrisy of the "innocent until proven guilty" mentality in this situation is that they are the ones leaning towards assuming that the accuser is guilty of a false accusation.... without any evidence. how about we ALWAYS believe the accuser. statistically these are so rarely false, so if "evidence" is your thing then how about you flip the situation, and until there's evidence they DIDN'T do it, stand behind the victim 100%. it's really not that hard.

also, it's extremely unnecessary to apologize for your remarks but then state "...still like the music.."
nobody cares. we all freaking loved their music. that's not what this is about in the slightest. you're missing the mark, and i suggest you read up on this a bit more (not on reddit) to fully understand the gravity of what he's done

I think about this often, I wish it was required learning in schools. I even thought about the logistics of starting some kind of nonprofit that goes in and educates kids maybe in like an assembly setting.

It already is (should be?) in schools. It’s called source reliability, and any history teacher worth a damn teaches it. Unfortunately, we have a lot of shitty teachers, but I can’t imagine a ton of great people viewing education as an enjoyable field given the larger trends in political oversight...

Oh yeah, same. I taught undergrad basic computer applications courses for a few semesters, and it actually was a central part of the course. Explaining how to vet sources and analyze graphs and studies was one of the scariest parts of the class, because very few of the students seemed to know or care about any of it prior to the class. On top of that, the course itself was largely viewed by students as a bullshit gen ed course, and it was hard to get kids to care about doing the work. I tried to make the class itself more discussion-based so that they'd get the most out of it, and spent a lot of time explaining how filesystems, the internet & cloud computing work as well.

I really wish teaching paid as much as working in industry.

I understand your sentiment, but what you're describing is the exact opposite of the due legal process and the foundation of our judicial system.

Personally I don't have a problem with the due legal process, flawed as it may be, and I expect should it ever affect them personally, neither would a single poster in here.

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

Silly me I decided to publicly state on FB about how they deserve no exposure on AOTY lists and mentioned the bands silence. Response:

"Maybe they haven’t commented because there’s still no solid evidence the girl(s) were even underage when any of it happened? He admitted to treating people badly in the past he’s not the first and won’t be the last who’s done something terrible but it takes the bigger person to hold his hands up and acknowledge that he fucked up years back and went and got help for his issues...anyone who’s listened to their music for the past 16 years know he’s no saint and he’s addressed that in his lyrics/music but that didn’t stop people listening then did it? I can put money on it if the girl said ‘I was of age when all this happened’ no fucker would be giving it the time of day..."

It's pretty gross that it's obvious this band could still tour and actually thrive if they keep going. The parts about grooming young fans, I guess I overlooked those specifics in his lyrics before this. He's not a saint and I endorsed grooming young fans for listening to them! Wtf seriously worst overall fanbase in history.

Ok... yet still what we are discussing here are moral repercussions, not legal repercussions. My post was not challenging our judicial system by any means. There’s a big difference between believing an accuser and (legally) sentencing an abuser. We know very well evidence is hard to provide in these circumstances, and nobody is taking legal action against Jesse anyway so that’s irrelevant, which was the point of my post in the first place.

  24. Super weird to admit they don't care about sexual abuse unless it's someone underage. Like, why would you be that creepy and admit to that online? Super gross.
