the one accusation i saw from that period seemed weird, if there were others i missed it. besides, it was something like flirty behavior? or something like that. i honestly care far less about the cheating than i do actual manipulative abuse of others (not that cheating isn't considered emotional abuse to his wife, it's just something i personally feel i'd prefer to stay out of)

The timing of the vicctims coming out now has nothing to do with Jesses rehabilitation and everything to do with the '#metoo movement'.

I found his apology to be sincere but that's just how I interpret. I know in this message board that's a minority opinion

It doesn't matter how "sincere" his apology is. He never handled the situation with the victim. I'm sorry, but there's literally no apology in the world that could excuse what he did to a minor.

Yeah fair play, thanks for clarifying. Absolutely agree.

It would’ve been a decent apology if what he’d been accused of was strictly cheating on his wife, not grooming and manipulating minors.

I really hope if they play shows, all of the profits or at least half go to some sort of charity for victims of abuse like rainn or something. Wouldn’t make everything okay but may bring something positive to them playing shows

sincere apology has nothing to do with actually handling things right. if things were done correctly likely victims wouldn’t have felt the need to expose Jesse and basically want him to burn.

also using the timing of women finally feeling comfortable to expose their abusers feels like a weird way to give him leeway in this scenario, how it was just about the social movement, not about his actions.

heads up to anyone, 99% of the time if you defend Jesse it is victim blaming. you can avoid that by, you know, not giving him any positivity or just avoiding talking about him.

He must be very sorry, he didn't apologize until after the accusations came out and even then he didn't admit to what he was being accused of and never said a single thing to call of his overzealous fans who harassed/doxxed/intimidated his victims. Very sorry, indeed.

I don't think it his or his bands responsibility to police his fans reactions on social media.

Also, people spoke out about Jesse long before the #metoo movement, it just didn’t get as much traction as a few months ago (and people didn’t care/didn’t believe it/etc.). Screenshots went around on Tumblr around 2010-2011ish and I know someone mentioned Nicole (I believe that’s her name, sorry if that’s incorrect) said what happened to her around a year or so ago, I believe, on a Front Bottoms Facebook post.

So yeah. He/the band have had plenty of time to address it and do literally anything other than a half-assed statement and a whole lot of nothing.

yes, it is. the way he responded motivated victim blaming. it is absolutely his responsibility to at the very least to tell them to stop.

Yeah, maybe if we do a play by play this makes more sense.
    1) Jesse Lacey manipulated and groomed underage women.
    2) Years later those women finally feel comfortable enough after seeing the support other victims have gotten in similar situations so they come out.
    3) Over attached fans start attacking them immediately.
    4) Jesse makes a statement that doesn't acknowledge the victims or accusations.
    5) Rest of the band stays silent.
    6) Crazy fans continue to attack victims.
    7) Band remains silent as their fans attack Jesse's victims.
    8) Band remains silent as their fans attack Jesse's victims.
    9) Band remains silent as their fans attack Jesse's victims.

If you don't see how their silence contributes then you need a psychologist and a proctologist.

I think that's a very narrow minded view of the situation as it only looks at what is in the public light.

being narrow about what's only in the public light? okay, why then did the victim come forward publicly years after jesse supposedly went through rehab then?

The victims are being attacked PUBLICLY.
The band has not PUBLICLY called on their fans to stop the madness.
The victims have PUBLICLY stated they have not been contacted by the band or Jesse.

You are fishing for reasons to not be upset at the band when there are no excuses for their behavior.

Going by his statement, Jesse seems to think his true vice is that he’s a serial cheater/has a sex addiction. We can’t say “but he went to rehab” because we have no idea whether or not he’s sought any sort of treatment or help for the fact that he manipulated and groomed minors.

Until he acknowledges what he was actually accused of, I won’t and can’t believe he’s genuine or anywhere near sorry. And, even then, he and the rest of his band have ignored it for so long that it won’t even matter. He had an opportunity to be honest and sincere and he didn’t take it.

Not making excuses for their behaviors of the past. Just being accepting of the response that has come.

It's not an acceptable response though.....

nor is it your place to say that it's "acceptable"

every post this person has posted has been about brand new or in response to the pinegrove allegations, and all of them are pretty much trying to justify listening to the bands, so, i don't think this person has any intention of wanting to learn and grow or knows when to stop talking

Oh I get it... You're setting up a false dichotomy. Well let me stop you there. I can tell your MO here is to move past this situation so we can all go back to liking the band. That won't happen, no one is going to comfort you and tell you that it's alright to like a pedophile and his band of silent men.

and guess what: you don't have to. that's the good thing, the decision was made for you so you don't have to decide yourself
