A guy I knows wife works at a venue here in kc that they booked for May 18 or something like that and said they still hadnt canceled it but that was around the end of November when he told me that so who knows

yeah but those shows, if legit, will not be without incident

 

what do you honestly think will happen? we've seen that throughout the majority of bn fandom that this is an unfortunate footnote at most, and not even an issue for many others. hell, some dude just gave me $200+ for the limited vinyl and mentioned he hoped the "drama would die down." there may be a small vocal minority speaking out, but other than the members of this forum, i don't see enough outrage for it to cause incident.

 

I wouldn't go see them. Totally content knowing I just saw them for the last time.

 

hineatly them touring is what would be the final straw for the rest of the band for me. them not saying anything yet is bad but not a complete deal breaker for the future whatever the rest end up doing. but if they look past what Jesse did this time to tour, presumably for money, it's done for me. next spring is not nearly enough time for Jesse to really get rehabilitated if he's even trying to do that, it would take years and at minimum proof of repentance and growth from Jesse for me to even consider giving brand new as a whole another chance at life.

I think the whole “rehab” thing happened over the last couple years tbh, hence why they started making new music together again. I don’t know if there’s anything he could do to make me want to spend money on them, tho. Maybe if a portion is going to some good sexual abuse survivors charities or something. Idk...just can’t see myself doing the mad scramble at noon for tickets. I’d be especially pissed if I bought tickets and there weren’t videos popping up from the first couple nights of the tour where he spends a couple of minutes addressing it. Getting up there and pretending it didn’t happen and ignoring it is just blech.

Yeah, if I recall, all the sexual misconduct accusations were pretty much between 2002 and 2010, right? Were there any after that? No one knows exactly when he went to rehab but I'm guessing it was in 2013, which was around the time he was supposed to get married and slept with Derrick's fiance. My guess is that's probably when he started going, although that's all speculation on my part, obviously.

That whole video of him speaking before Sealed to Me was in 2015, I believe. And by what he said, I'm led to believe that he had done some counseling already as he talks about 'learning things at 37 that I should have learned at 17' and just overall talking about how shitty of a person he had been for most of his life.

 

I’m almost certain some group therapy with the band and friends must have happened, because they went from apparently not talking to each other on tour to making and releasing their first new song(s) in 6 years when Mene and IAAN came out. I used to think it was Lacey and his weird introvert stuff that kept them from making more music sooner, but after we heard about all this I would be willing to bet the band didn’t want to do new music with him and kept touring strictly because they needed the money. I’m sure part of it was him not wanting all this to come out too, but I lean more towards the band having to be persuaded to do a new album with him.

the rehab didn't work then because he still didn't actually handle all of this coming out well at all. he deserves nothing

I've been tossing up on whether I should say something here for a little while and I think I need to. Colin, I care about you, we're friends, and through all our interactions I've seen a bright, fun, passionate person. I think you're a good person. But, saying cwhit knows nothing is uncalled for. Casey is intelligent and has been one of the most prominent voices in making change in the music scene, to something much safer and inclusive. Idk, if you wanted to have a discussion, "you know nothing" definitely isn't a productive way to do so. I understand that emotions are running high, I really do. My vinyl arrived today and I had a fucking breakdown looking at it. But attacking someone for wanting an abuser to do better like Jesse could've is unnecessary.

I'm sorry if I'm overstepping my bounds and I hope we're still cool. Feel free to message me if you want to talk more (but I'll probably be asleep when you wake up). Conflict makes me incredibly anxious but I can't be a good friend if I stand idly and not speak up. I know you can stand up for yourself @cwhit so if I've said anything to make you uncomfortable I'm sorry. This site really has a great community most of the time and it should stay that way

 

does his statement make it seem like he's learned anything? he hasn't done anything to stop victims from being harassed online, his statement was self-centered, he didn't even admit to anything he's done! if he was truly rehabilitated years ago, the victims wouldn't have wanted to expose him now. that's part of it, too. because this isn't about him, at all.

 

Apologies if this is out of turn as I haven't kept up with this that closely, but wasn't he also accused of similar behaviour during recording of Science Fiction in local cafes etc. too?
