Pretty shocking Sic Transit is going to beat Play Crack The Sky

 

I don't like it one bit.

 

I think Sic Transit will take it all actually.

 

I thought the Good To Know...vs. Quiet Things matchup would be closer. I guess I was wrong!

 

I don't see it beating Tommy Gun in the next round

 

Play Crack is fine but Sic Transit though? There's a lot of love for Play Crack but kinda feel it's a little overrated after years of graphics that just say "need you like water in my lungs." Still love it and sic transit also has that lol but

 

I still like Sic Transit but it really might be the worst song on the album.

 

"The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot" vs "Guernica"
- Guernica has never really done much for me, I can appreciate the sentiment of the song lyrically but its maybe the least musically interesting on the song, and probably my least favorite on Deja, which is ironic because Missing You is maybe my favorite of the demos. Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot is a classic, I don't care if it's just Yellow by Coldplay, that song's great too.

- It's interesting to think that Good To Know was probably going to be the closer for this album before they threw in Play Crack The Sky because Good To Know is a pretty vicious song in comparison lyrically. I enjoy Quiet Things as a catchy single but the last couple of minutes in Good To Know are a jam and I hope it gets more love.

"Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't" vs "I Will Play My Game Beneath The Spin Light"
- Never really liked I Will Play My Game Beneath The Spin Light all that much, mixed feelings about the production and I don't like how it kills the momentum that's been building during the first two songs. I get that it's probably the point, but Brand New pulls off that trick much better with the transition between Vices and Bed. Regardless, Tommy Gun's my favorite on this record, so nothing's beating it in my book.

"Play Crack the Sky" vs "Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades"
- Probably the most difficult choice for me this round, which I imagine is the same for a lot of other people in this thread. The segueway between Tautou and Sic Transit Gloria with the bassline is what hooked on me this band though so I can't not give Sic Transit Gloria the win. I prefer the harder side of Brand New anyways, and while I'm always up for acoustic Brand New, the moments when they rock out are so much more rewarding for me.

 

tattoos of shipwrecks and lighthouses and lyrics are what ruined Play Crack for me haha

 

Play Crack the Sky is great and still one of the best Brand New songs. Calling bullshit on knocking its lyrics as I've seen some do here and in the other thread.

 

I wasn't knocking the lyrics, but being from long island, it's single handedly one of the most popular tattoos for people to get and it's so cliche at this point that its eye-roll inducing lol. just mention "montauk" in a song and ppl here go nutsy

Yeah I wouldn't say it's ruined for me, I still enjoy it, but it's not a song that's that level for me that it seemingly is for everyone else. Those things are def a contributing factor to that
