  1. If you don't buy the 2 tickets for $100 someone else will and until that dynamic changes they can do what they want

They certainly can. IMO they don't deserve that level of acclaim this far after their last meaningful output.

Which is a bummer cuz I want to support them. Just not as is

  3. Yeah I guess I believe that the music they have put out and the live performances they give are still quality enough for me.

I think expectation is bad for art and I think the reasons this band has achieved the greatness they have is because they don't put music out just to meet expectations. I feel like a shitty album will tarnish a career more than 10 years of touring/silence.

I'd be perfectly fine with them not releasing any new material. What they've done for me these past years are more than enough. I'd love new material, but it's not necessary. Whatever they want to do, I'm all for.

is this guy really in here trying to say that people don't deserve to get paid for doing their job? lmao

Also, it might be because I've only seen them once, but I'd still drop 60 bucks to watch them perform again. I love the experience they provided last time I saw them. Even if that means the only changes in the set list being say, "Quiet Things" replacing "Sic Transit" and "Brothers" replacing "Moshi Moshi".

Hell, sign me up for "Vices": The 3 Hour Long Experience

  7. Their improvisation makes each show a unique experience regardless of the setlist. Even if they played Vices for an entire set they'd still find new ways of making each iteration stand on its own.

100%. It still blows my mind that At The Bottom has 3 different versions (studio, Daisy Sessions, and the live aggression). The band has a knack for reinventing the songs (Brothers, Sowing Season, Jude Law, etc.). Even Sic Transit turns slightly different live due to it being "stripped down" vocally to accent a constant stream from Jesse.

Seen them 10+ times. I've seen the cool breakdowns. Seen the improvisation.

I know people love brand new. But come on.
If thrice stopped at artist or vheissu the conversation wouldn't be the same.

Also not saying they can't. Or they shouldn't exploit it to make money. But their last 3 year rollout has been ridiculous by any standard. And the show. If you've been to the last couple tours. Hasn't been revolutionary based on what they did 5 years ago.

It's weird to get the argument that the artist owes you nothing because it is their artistic expression.

Then to also get the argument that fuck the art. Exploit the same show for 10 years if you can still make money.

But clearly a difference of opinion. I'd like a last album and for them to hang it up. Then maybe I'll buy a reunion tour ticket when I'm 40'l to watch this set again. Which I don't think I'm alone in. But maybe I am.

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

Been going back and listening to the Leaked Demos a lot lately. Still think I prefer the 'original' version.

  14. I don't see these shows as exploitation for many reasons but mostly because they're still playing bigger venues than they ever have and the vast majority of those crowds are completely satisfied with the show they received.

It's not like they're only playing festivals and radio-shows. It's not like they've been on the road non-stop since Daisy. If they wanted to exploit their fan base they could do so in so many other ways... like releasing an album that they don't think meets their standards.

Maybe my Bay Area experience is different than the rest of the country. But the San Jose state amphitheater and Greek theatre are the exact same venues and therefore size I saw them at 2006 and 2008.

All I can say. Is enjoy the show. They are being capitalistic and that is okay. And I understand.

I will supply someone $$$ for my demand if new music. Like menzingers next week.

I didn't realize touring was exploitation
Bands tour all the time without new music out. And the past four times I've seen them hasn't been anywhere close to the same show, but okay

I'm wrong. Brand new is not exploiting. Wrong word. They are rightfully making money off their well deserved success. They can clearly live off of two great albums. One scene album. And a cut or two off of YFW.

99% of other bands on that model would fail. But doesn't make them wrong.

I hope to be excited again about the possibility of them blowing me away like they did after TDAG for two years and daisy for another two.

They don't owe me the excitement. But it would make a discussion about this band palpable again.

TLDR: I want music. A decade of waiting with missed promises is a long time for fans that have lived for 3.

    They tour on TDAG.

    I kid

They release an insanely good single that sounds like tame impala / arcade fire with nirvana on the side.

I frankly can't believe the band is still rolling on the back of a discography with one great album and one fine album. Pretty crazy to me.

*one great album, two really really incredible ones

I'd rather them take their time. It's not like the band is the only thing in their lives, or like there is a constant stream of "it's almost here!" Like, at worst, they give an update every year or so. not the worst thing in the world.

this is the most interesting post of the last few pages, can i ask why that's your preference? do you happen to have a particular hq version of the "original" leak or something? or is the lofi quality part of the charm for you, maybe sets it more apart from their other output? etc etc

What'll always be weird is getting comments like this in a thread full of completely subjective opinions. Everyone has an opinion, and that's mine, and it's fairly ridiculous for you to be getting defensive about it.

  25. It's a little more ridiculous to come into a band's thread and complain about the band's discography and their fan base's dedication.
