I'll be honest, I don't give a shit about DBZ. I watched Akira once. A co worker of mine at the time really wanted me to watch it and I did. It was ok. I'm open to more since I know there are a lot of classics in that genre like Spirited Away but it's just not really my thing I guess but i'm trying to keep an open mind about it still.

That said has anyone here seen Anomalisa (2015) - IMDb

I've had it on my Netflix list but still have yet to watch it. It seems like it will be right up my alley, I just haven't taken the time.

 

Akira is considered to be like required viewing by many because it was one of the first anime releases to have large crossover in the United States and was so instrumental in popularizing the genre but I agree, it is just very okay.

Also, since you mentioned Sprited Away, when it comes to Miyazaki, Princess Mononoke and Ponyo are easily my favorites. The former being a really good think piece that I like to show people who have misconceptions about anime. The latter is one I can just put on anytime, foreground or background and just enjoy and feel at ease. Ponyo is just so sweet and heartwarming.

Lastly, I own Anamalisa on bluray but I have yet to watch it.

Lol by my last couple years of college, any paper longer than a one pager was an automatic sentence to an all-nighter. Until I really gave up and just started going to bed and dealing with it in the morning before it was due.
