I'm not entirely sure what makes my opinion any more interesting than anyone else's.

I feel like TDAG was really powerful and a lot of people identified with the lyrics. The lyrics seemed to be mostly agnostic, yet hopeful. There comes a time in everyone's life when they have to confront the belief system in which they were raised. It feels like it's about challenging those beliefs and discovering truth. There's no real answer to the question in the album. It is left pretty open. The ambiguity allowed soany people to connect with the deep feelings on the record.

I wasn't allowed to listen to music with swearing growing up, so Brand New was a miracle for me. They were challenging and engaging, yet they'd still pass the parental screening.

Science Fiction Jesse seems to lean more towards atheism or at the very least, non-religious spirituality. The lyrics seem to be more defiant in a lot of ways. I absolutely enjoy this record, but don't identify with the lyrics as much. For example, I have no desire to be any sort of heretic. It's definitely a different time than I'm used to from these guys, but it's still everything I love about Brand New: sincerity. Even some of the band's cringey lyrics work because they seem to come from an honest place.

I don't think Jesse is still lost. I think he knows exactly how we feels about religion and has mostly reconciled with his beliefs. I'm not sure if he believes in God, but I don't think he believes in religion.

 

He looks very different than I expected, but then again I think that about most of you on here when I see your pictures.

I haven't been there! If I'm near Texas and El Cajon I'm probably at Chicken Pie Shop (childhood favorite, even if it's basically old folks' food lol). I'll have to check it out though.
