Why would anyone go to a youtube/facebook/reddit comment section for something like this? It's like asking to be pissed off or have your faith in humanity crushed.

Not that I could link you to it but I remember hearing stories of Alex hitting on young girls (13-15) and I know Jack dated a 17 year old when he was 25ish (which is scummy but not as bad as other things).

I for sure went to high school with girls who - when they were 16 or 17 - would go to the bar with a Fake ID, lie about their age and go home with guys in their 20s. I know this because several girls around that time would tell me about it and when I went to college found out about more of them. Honestly as a 16-17-18-year old kid in high school, I didn't even know how to handle that kind of information that was told to me. I think this kind of stuff was a lot more rampant 15-20 years ago too.

Tyson tweeted today: "Creepy creeps sweeps week. Good riddance to bad rubbish"

I thought that was about Jesse.

Sorry if any of my humor has been inappropriate tonight. Goodnight friends.

  9. While still gross, I’ve heard this stuff too and it was like Put Up/So Wrong era stuff. I’m in high school and have seen bigger age gaps.

    all we have is time

This. And I'd like to note that it has nothing to do with me being a fan of his work, but I think you can take these things on a case by case basis. For example, I also personally thought Louie's statement was respectable, but Ian Watkins on the other hand is inexcusable. Unless someone comes forward about Jesse doing something very recently, I can feel for him living with these demons and fighting to get through it, and finding at least a bit of peace in his family. It's possible and likely that this shit has haunted him for years. I agree you can feel for both, but of course ultimately he should've known better while she may have been too young to.

I'm so glad the victim had the courage to come forward, and I hope this allows more in this scene to feel comfortable speaking out. I hope the above paragraph isn't interpreted as trying to equate Jesse's struggles to the struggles of the victim, or sympathizing with an abuser. Obviously she should be the focus, but I do think it's important to note that not everything needs to be so black and white. If we don't embrace the good change, it will be much more difficult to move forward as a society. We need to have the backs of the victims, and continue to hold absuers accountable.. but we must also encourage those who feel they have fucked up and are genuine about reinventing themselves.

And all should remember-- whether it be politics, behavior, etc. It is NEVER too late to make a change. It is much better to have a shitty image of your former self than to live that way every single day. We can all be better, and it takes that initial step of admitting and committing.

Anyways... *end [hopefully somewhat] inspirational rant*.

The Jack thing surprises me. I lowkey doubt it, cause that seems like a shitty thing for him to do, especially cause it would've been in 2014.

I know you *can* feel bad for both the victim and Jess Lacey here, but I don't. Any person who commits heinous acts against other human beings has their own issues going on. We all do. Not an excuse.

I suppose isssuing a statement is a nice step but it pales in comparison compared to what he has done to another person, and really he can say whatever he wants at this point I have no obligation to remain a fan or financially support him in any way whatsoever. The only instances of forgiveness here are between him and the victim and him and his family and really none of it has anything to do with any of us.

Lol I always thought the same thing, my girl is a HUGE fan of his but even when I told her that she was like "....sounds like Ariel... sigh..." lol. He apparently asked her to come back to his bus in front of her ex one, hated that dude so I found that hilarious cus fuck him, but yeah, Ariel is a douche lol.

Whats there really to feel bad on when it becomes something where you victimize youth? I would feel for Jesse if this was all consentual adults and it was ruining friendships/relationships cus it was a purely sexual addiction thing....... But this isn't that... I can appreciate the difficultly of his addiction sure - hope he gets the help there....

But for the things that bought this all to light (that wed never hear about otherwise, a point in and of itself), no.... can't it's impossible. I have every bias possible towards Brand New/Jesse and still cannot allow it. At best I hope he gets help... do I feel for him though? No.
At a certain point this did become a knowing better thing, and he didnt.

And I get that too. I'm cool with any POV as long as it holds the absuer accountable and supports the victim. I tend to hold a bit more empathy than most, but just because I feel for him doesn't mean I don't think he deserves what he's getting.

I do think it's interesting that (as of now) the tour is still on. Interested in seeing if Kevin ends up removing his involvement or not.

Personally I must admit I dont think I could write off their music cus I'd be writing off a pillar of my survival at times, but will it be blemished? Absolutely. Perhaps though... that blemish will make me realize the strength I found in that that much even more and make the strength more my own and not so much Brand New's & Jesse's for propelling me. I will always be thankful for the art for being there but ultimately we make our own bones of getting by. To all those suffering who used Brand New for strength I hope you can all find a way to see it the same.
We made it with their help or so we thought but it's music, it helps but we're the fighters. Don't let a soundtrack to the fight being ruined tear you down.

Thank you for this. Honestly the comments making fun of me for a simple mistake have made this thread hard to read and stopped me from checking it for a while. Especially when it was beside my point anyway. Hearing those words come out of his mouth is horrifying to think about and the context is forever changed, no matter what its original intent was our how I took it even just a few days ago. It reminds me of the discussion when everyone first heard Desert and how it didn't matter that it wasn't from Jesse's own perspective, the words were still incredibly upsetting for some people to hear coming from him period. More than any other song off the top of my head I don't think I will ever be able to hear, "When we discovered we could use the same logic to get us out of trouble and shake off all the people we abuse," without immediately thinking of the past 24 hours.

When you hit a mothafucka, you hit that mothafucka Prestigious

Do you guys think the rest of the band knew?

I'm struggling to reconcile the fact that I still think Garrett and Vin and Brian deserve credit for making that music. (Of course I'll never pay this band another dollar and I'm now glad I missed the SF tour, but still.)

As someone else said, it's hard to separate art from artist, when a chunk of the lyrics, are him basicallly confessing his dirtbag habit of womanizing young girls.

But at the same time someone else said that they fell in love with these songs by relating them to their OWN struggles and personal life, not Jesse's. And I agree with that too.

It's all just so confusing and infuriating. Like, my feelings are genuinely really hurt that I looked up to some shady pedophile-leaning fuckboy all that time. The music is simultaneously hugely important to me and also now makes me feel guilty / sick.
