I believe that after the Derrick thing the rest of The band may have made it clear to Jesse he had to change or the band was done. Then he met his wife or started dating her or whatever and she helped him be a better person and I believe the rest of the band truly believed he had changed... that’s a naive point of view but it’s also the only way I could imagine Kevin Devine supporting them.

They may have not known about the underage girls, who knows

  2. I don't think this is fair. Knowing their morals and behavior, sure, but knowing a specific thing like this ... I don't think there's anyway to say of "course they knew."

Still so bummed about this, I'm almost glad life is hitting me with so much atm almost to lessen the blow since I love the band, they're "hometown heroes" i took pride in. I hope the band wasn't complacent at all, that would make it even harder to justify ever even listening again.. Which would be hard considering how much their songs and lyrics have meant to me. Jesse being someone I wouldn't say I "looked up to" but did "look to"....

Always stand by the victim, hope she can get through this as smoothly as possible, just such an incredibly disappointing and heartbreaking situation all around.

I fell far behind, but I just want to say cus I saw some posts of people saying they feel guilty about having invested so much in this band and that the person who got them through so much is a scumbag, but I just want to emphasize no one in this thread should have any guilt about this. Only Jesse and the people who may have covered for him should feel guilt. And if this band got you through a lot in your life before all of this, that is still valid. I just don't want anyone beating themselves up over for this cus we were all blindsided here. Basically just want to send love to you all.

I don’t think it makes it okay, but I am choosing to believe that at some point he actually worked on himself and began making better decisions... again this doesn’t excuse him at all but if you read the quotes from sealed to me video and the one posted above it certainly seems that way. It was too late tho, and damage has already been done, much like Louis CK. They both hurt people and both deserve consequences for their actions.

I’ll be surprised if they ever play a show again past this months dates, and even then I’ll be surprised if this tour doesn’t get canceled

I know they were expected to do a huge farewell tour next year and then be done but I am curious if everything just ends now. I keep thinking about how this kind of compares to the PWR BTTM situation. They had a new album out that was getting good buzz and then poof they were gone off the face of the earth. I know they weren't as big of a deal as Brand New but I can't help but seeing this going the same way.

Yea I think I knew that, there’s an insta Post about how they had been through “some tough times together” or something I believe refers to some of this. I just mean there seems to be a time period leading up to him getting married where he may have actually worked on himself, maybe even gotten help, who knows. I don’t think people can just change on a dime but I do believe they can work to be better.

I feel like it's a good thing that we live in this time with the internet where victims can speak out and reach such a large audience. This whole idea of "musicians getting to do what they want because they have money and power" has gone on for so long without much or any consequence. I believe Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin flat out bragged in an interview about sleeping with underage women at one point. It's nice to see more prominent people being held accountable now.

Oh no I'm not insinuating that they knew about this particular incident, I'm just saying with all these people coming forward saying "yeah he's a creep" the band must have witnessed creepy behavior at some point as well. I mean they obviously knew about him sleeping with his cousin's wife. Not a crime, but for sure a creepy thing to do.

But you're right, I regret even bringing up the rest of the guys right now. No victim has come forward saying anything about them, so I'd rather not put them on trial.

    all we have is time

That’s valid. Obviously in the end all that matters is that this came out, and the victim is the focus. Just seemed a bit hypocritical that someone would call one person out but continue to work with others known for similar behavior. Anyways... not important at the moment

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Fall Out Boy's allegations blowing up from this would be the cherry on top of a really shitty cake. Again, glad they're coming out if they do, but really, really shitty. Another band with a lot of music that means a lot to me.

I mean, I can definitely believe that something finally "clicked" for him like 3-4 years ago and he realized he had to change or lose everything. There definitely seemed to be a shift in "mood" surrounding him and the band around 2013 or so, and especially the last 3 years with the flurry of activity all of a sudden seeming to want to put new music out and etc. It's definitely possible the band was staying together for the money after the the Derrick stuff, with none of the guys really liking Jesse anymore but still needing to play shows to make some dough. The whole ending in 2018 thing might have been them coming to an agreement a few years ago with Jesse becoming a married man and not being a womanizing asshole anymore and everyone kind of made amends an decided hey, lets spend these next few years touring and putting out some new music and then we'll call it a day, Maybe down the road we'll get back together and play again. All the cryptic speeches about being a bad person and being difficult and the obvious struggle he's been having with himself in his lyrics certainly points to all of that.

But changing for the sake of your friends and your wife doesn't excuse the apparent predatory nature of grooming underage girls to sleep with them later and having them send you nude pictures and etc. You needed to go above and beyond to try and repent for that shit. And it's too late now, but you should still at least try like I said last night. You are perhaps the biggest name to ever come out of this scene (within the scene, anyway)---stop being a fucking recluse and use that name recognition to put together something big that focuses on teaching young and upcoming artists how to be better people, and helps young people recognize and put a stop to this behavior among their peers at shows, i.e. the indiscriminate groping of women that goes on and etc.

  24. I'd never heard anything about Andy Hurley before that post. I looked around online and couldn't find anything about it either. (The 18 Visions post was disturbing as well, couldn't find anything more about it either.)

I mean that whole post kind of started as "gotcha bullshit" so like I have a hard time feeling bad if other bands go down for shit they've done.
