my first vinyl was deja entendu by this unknown band called brand shoe or something.

I didn't know what it was worth until they reissued it.

I wish I had sold it high.

I remember going into Borders to buy the first Gorillaz album and getting turned away because I wasn’t old enough.

    That scar will never fade.

All this cassette talk makes me want to play the cassette of Leaked Demos 2006

BORDERS!!! That was my hangout spot for years when I was a pre-driving teen. Rode my bike up there like 3-4 times a week and would spend hours at a time there. That's where I bought the majority of my CDs (that and Best Buy, Record Den, Ultrasound)

First cassettes I remember getting (for Christmas) were Vanilla Ice's To the Extreme, and MC Hammer's Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em.

I'm sure that I had others before that though, probably some kids' music and Michael Jackson.

I’m 31. But I was a music loving kid. I just loved pop music. So my mom would get me cassettes so we could listen to stuff in the car together.

Randomly, I had Amish Paradise on cassette, but Coolio’s album on cd haha. I played Gangsta’s Paradise on repeat for what had to have been months.

I also had that Happy Birthday cassette “My name is Zoom and I live on the moon, but I came down to earth just to sing you this tune...”

Apparently they still make those haha

First vinyl I bought was Clarity at the Clarity X10 show in 2009 at Metro in Chicago.

    RIP Borders

Yeah, I spent a lot of time (and money) there

Also went to Best Buy by the mall a lot. Hardly ever went to Circuit City though! I’ve been to Record Den but don’t think I’ve ever been to Ultrasound. Where was (is?) that?

my dad had Queen greatest hits and The Doobie Brothers on cassette and that's mostly what we listened to.

    pretty great honestly.

still get amped when I hear queen. I didn't find my own music taste until high school (2000).

also pretty sure I had teenage mutant ninja turtles on cassette, just remembered that.

how do we have 2 people from cleveland, 3 or 4 candadians/buffalo (honorary canadian) 3 people that will all live in utah next week, and I haven't seen anybody else in here from TX. is Brand New not allowed down here or something?

My wife is from Texas, so I go there often to visit her family. Does that help?

I’ve even seen Brand New in Dallas with her haha

Record Den was/is my favorite. They used to sell albums the Friday before the official Tuesday release, so I'd go there every Friday in high school/after college to get albums 5 days before officially released. I don't know if they still get releases early now that the official release day is Friday.

Ultrasound was not far from Record Den...on Mentor Avenue more toward Route 306. It was great because it pretty much sold all indie/punk/emo/whatever you want to call it records. That was the prime focus of the store. I remember going to Warped Tours and they always had a table there. Went there a ton during high school. It moved to Willoughby probably 10 years ago and I believe has since closed.

that helps. I've seen brand new a few times here in austin. but just weird that Texas is underrepresented in this thread considering the population disparities.

The one and only record I've ever, and will ever buy is The Canyon by the Used. Why buy/listen to anything else?

even listening to it played backwards is better than any other album ever created.

Fun fact though: I was 15 and my parents were out of town when ILAD came out. I was staying at a neighbors house and had some friends ride the bus home from school with me and we took my parents suburban and drove it to the record store and bought that cd. Then drove around in he suburban listening to the album at nearly full blast. Someone didn’t shut the door all the way when we got back and the battery died so my parents found out I had taken it joy ridin haha

I saw The 1975 and Bad Suns in Austin. It was swell.

And I’ll be in Dallas over thanksgiving. Can’t wait to get some Whattaburger.
