In my Perception Psych class in undergrad, we talked about perceiving the timing of music/beats, and our brains are sort of hardwired to think and react ahead of a beat, which is why a crowd will typically clap too quickly or performers who don't have training/practice will speed up a song as they're playing it. It helps make sense of why crowd clappers are so horrible. I won't clap unless someone on stage calls for it.

 

That's exactly why I was so confused to hear people clapping at the beginning of You Stole.

I also hate when people clap on the wrong beat (upbeat instead of downbeat or vice versa).

@truelovewaits Watched two more episodes of Curb last night. My secondhand embarrassment isn't as bad as the night before. I also really related to the episode "The Wire" as someone who had to deal with superfans working at the rescue featured on Pit Bulls and Parolees. Superfans are the worst, and they're always disappointed when the person they're obsessed with isn't super happy to see them.

 

I guess I’m now only a few hours away from finding out whether the Philly crowd will be just as inept! (Spoiler alert, we usually are )

That was really fucking weird and confusing. I don't think half the crowd knew what the song was. At least the girls behind me didn't (visiting from Toronto). They only really knew the two Deja songs and sort of knew the TDAG songs, except one girl who was rapping the lyrics to Jesus. They also didn't know what the name of their first album was. Not really sure why they made the trek to Chicago to see the band.

Doors 6:30
Nada Surf 7:30-8:10
Brand New 8:45-10:15

Considering doors are at 7 tonight I’m guessing 8-8:40 for nada surf and 9:15-10:45 for brand new

 

I've seen them 3 times now and every time I've seen them I swear everyone around me only knows Deja and like 3 TDAG songs
