We give ian crap but he hypes a lot of great bands, and is a big reason why I listened to that caracara record and is probably the reason why brand new got best new music. I don’t agree with him always, especially his vendetta against Manchester Orchestra but I do like a lot of his opinions. I also love that his favorite band is the hotelier

I don’t like Ian after the weirdly personal attack on Fallon in his Get Hurt review.

Pitchfork reviews are so damn eloquently verbose sometimes but they are occasionally spot on. If I like a band but am underwhelmed by their album, Pitchfork usually explains why quite well.

Pitchfork is a caricature of itself though. It doesn't cover "mainstream music" per se, but it does tend to cover the same kind of hip-hop/noise rock/ambient drone artists to the point where those now-saturated niches have become their mainstream.

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

So only two and a half weeks before we get a physical release and I’m starting to get antsy. Cannot wait to see how they (vinyl) turn out, especially the limited version which supposedly will be presented in a hard-bound book gatefold. Still waiting to hear more details on that front.

Pitchfork is one of the best festivals out there if I was in Chicago I’d much rather them play that than Lolla or Riot Fest

Honestly forgot that I ordered this vinyl and that it'll be shipping soon. Can't wait to see what I spent $55 on.

Indeed, yesterday was pretty tense all around
160+ people in my town were at Vegas show. Dozens injured and 3 killed. I've never seen my Facebook explode with such worry and grief. My friends cousin is in critical condition. A guy I went to high school with was shot in leg. My ex coworker's 20 year old niece was killed. Just a horrible day.

There's not going to be anything extra, just the vinyl and this note:

So sorry to hear that. Hopefully those who are in recovery will be ok. I assume you're from pretty close to Vegas. I can't imagine being that close to this.

Seconding this (even though this was 5 days ago). I listened to it a bunch this past weekend. Is it just me or does this album come off a little more grounded/punk than Harmlessness (which I guess would be more atmospheric), at least partly?

They definitely stuck to what they've always done, which is never making the same record twice, which I like from them! It's easily a top 10 record this year for me. It could even climb to top 5 over time.

Very true! I do like the different sound on this album a lot.

I have such a hard time remembering what I've listened to this year haha. I didn't listen to as many new records this year as last year, I know that for sure. But definite top albums of the year for me right now are SciFi, ABMTTS, Always Foreign, and Chill dummy. I'm sure The new Kevin Devine, Front Bottoms, and Julien Baker will be up there too.

I need to listen to that Wolf Alice band. Both of their records. Don't know anything about them.
