It just makes me feel useless. Like all this crap is going in and I'm sitting here thinking about what music to listen to like that even matters. I wish there was something we could do.

I just strive to be a better person daily. I try to do random acts of kindness. It might not change the world, but if I can make one persons day every day, I feel like I'm doing something nice with my small outreach

Seeing people try to talk about this like it's isolated to one man, who is just crazy, is so unbelievably fucked up. I want to shake the ignorance out of their heads with my bare hands.

Yeah, man. I was never in a surrounding area while any terrorist attack was taking place, fortunately, but it’s always on my mind as well. Concerts, movies, sporting events. Even just going to the mall. There’s always the thought that someone in this crowd of people could have a gun or an explosive. Not fun.

Yeah I am the same. I try to be a better person. I'm trying to treat everyone I interact with with kindness. I also am trying to be open to dialogue. I want to speak up for what I believe in, and engage those who disagree without getting angry and letting my emotions take over. I've had a few conversations with hardcore conservative coworkers and I managed to get my point and beliefs about gun control across without it devolving into a fight.

I think we need to talk about these things, but not only when a tragedy hits. The dialogue needs to be constant to make a change.

It's because they want to push the idea that it's an isolated incident, so they don't want it to turn political. Always the case with situations like this

Hey. I haven't posted in here for a long time. I just can't really keep up with the thread anymore, which isn't anyone's fault, just circumstance.

Today sucks. There are no words that can articulate the gravity of what happened. I also feel useless and drained. I'm supposed to be working on the homework I've been procrastinating on for a week, but I might have to procrastinate for one more day. The only reason I'm popping in here is to say that I'm glad our community is so supportive, empathetic, and kind. There are a lot of good people here, even if sometimes we all get in disagreements and tensions fly. I know this post doesn't change anything, but I wanted to express the sentiment. I hope everyone is doing as well as someone could today.

Conflicting reports whether he has died.

I guess he was found unconscious in full cardiac arrest...seeing reports that he has passed away, but also seeing reports that he is still alive but has been taken off life support.

I don't mean to add more to this miserable fucking day of death and destruction

Now I find out that my co-worker who was rushed to the hospital a few days ago has pancreatic cancer Stage 4. Already been moved to hospice, and given a week to live. Her and I were just outside during the solar eclipse talking about how we'd have a full one in 2024 and how we couldn't wait for it. Wtf this just isn't right.

Thank you. I just never could've imagined when we had that talk that I'd be going to her funeral soon. She's barely older than I am. It absolutely scares the shit out of me.

That's absolutely brutal. I know that pancreatic cancer is one of the fastest acting cancers and it's devastating how things can change in the blink of an eye.

It's impossible to even conceptualize something like that. It's not fair and it shouldn't happen to anyone, let alone anyone so young. The dad of a friend I grew up with since Kindergarten passed away last week after a 3 year battle with pancreatic cancer. In some ways, it's a blessing your co worker doesn't have to go through that kind of battle. Maybe there's a silver lining in there?

I think there's only one way to properly honor Tom Petty....

    BRACKETS!!!!

Jk I don't know enough of his songs, although I would be all about a listening party.

Traveling Wilburys is my favorite thing Tom Petty was involved in. Between his solo career, and the Heartbreakers though he has so many MASSIVE songs anyone would recognize.

I just saw Tom Petty for the first time back in June with my mom. Really glad I did.

I passed up a chance this summer here because I had already spent too much on Tool and Paul McCartney because he "comes every summer" Gutted that I didn't go now

Yea I saw him this July, and I'm so so glad I did now. He sounded great too. I never would've thought we wouldn't have him with us by the end of the year.

That's brutal. You really do have to go see these legends while we still have the chance. You just never know, especially with the lifestyles a lot of them lived back in their hey day.
