i literally do not see how a single person, even someone who is all for the second amendment, can be okay with people owning assault rifles. i don't think people should have guns for hunting either but weapons whose only points are for mass murder? why?

What makes it all the more tragic is there is no reason to believe anything will change. So sad.

How can the gun control debate not be part of the conversation at this point.

I don't see how anyone who identifies as a Christian thinks that guns are ok and are something people should have.

people who do "thoughts and prayers" are the worst, the victims of this disgusting terrorist tragedy would prefer if we took action for this not to happen again

the second amendment is trash and out of date. something like that isn't a "right" it was a privilege, and its obvious that its a privilege humanity cannot be trusted with anymore so get rid of it

the only worry for totally banning gun ownership is that if normal citizens can't have guns police shouldn't either. but that also makes it hard if someone illegally gets a gun how do we stop them? it's a hard balance. at the very least it should be incredibly obvious that assault weapons should be outlawed

I remember seeing something covering these situations in the UK, where your everyday run-of-the-mill cops don't carry firearms, but they do have special forces who do in the event that they need to deal with something like that. However, it could be argued that the US would be far easier to smuggle in weapons for people through various networks, and people would say that doing that here could never work. It's sad, but it just seems that it would be impossible to ever impose such restrictions here. It's far too embedded in the culture and the law. Cuz you know, when it comes to the constitution and guns, there is no grey area. Not like with other things.

Sending Thoughts + prayers and civic action are not mutually exclusive things though. People can do both. Are you taking action in your own community to do something about it

that shouldn't be the "go to" as a statement though. anyone whose statement is solely just "sending thoughts and prayers to the victims" is just like the owners making statements about the NFL protests and saying they're about "divisive comments".

I was at a show at the HOB in Orlando when the Pulse shooting happened. My wife was so worried because at first the news came out with something along the lines of "shooting at club in Orlando", so she immediately thought of me and my friend at the Thrice show. Of course it was a good distance away, but then it rattled everyone who was there after learning that one of the places considered by that monster was the downtown Disney area. It's always in my mind now when I go to shows. I don't let it stop me from trying to continue on with normal life, but it's always there in my head.

Kind of a weird side note, but when I go to downtown Cleveland for concerts, cavs, indians games, etc, I always park in the same parking lot off West 3rd near Tower City & the Casino (well before Casino was even there). Any way, my dad always parks there too. The other night, he went to the Indians game and when he came back to his car, there were cops surrounding it and blood all over the place. Someone had literally been stabbed on his car and they wouldn't let my dad leave until after 2 a.m. once cops got all the evidence needed. Don't get me wrong, there are stabbing and shootings all over Cleveland (and other cities) all the time, but that situation was literally on my dad's car. WTF?

Not sure what the point of that above paragraph was, other than to say this world is seriously fucked up beyond belief. My wife freaks out because I'm downtown all the time, sometimes alone, but I'm not going to stop doing what I like to do or going where I like to go because of fucking idiots all over the world. In fact, I'm going to the Indians games Thursday and Friday and plan to park in that very same lot where the stabbing just occurred.

Man, that’s crazy. My wife gets a little worried every time I go to something downtown too. I completely understand too with the way things are going.

I'm so sick of this shit. I'm surrounded by people at home and in my personal life that are die hard about their guns. My brother, cousins, in laws, some friends....all die hard about their precious second amendment. I'm sick of it. There is zero reason for ANYONE to own these kinds of weapons. They love to say its "not a gun issue, its a mental health issue" Ummm, its both.

I know someone that has like 5 assault rifles, numerous handguns and a shotgun. He likes collecting them he says. Bullshit, he doesn't need to own any of that. All these people are dead and nothing is going to change. I'm just so sick of this happening over and over and over and nothing gets done to fix it.

im from the uk and so gun culture in the US just doesn't compute with me. there is no reason why a regular person should own or carry an assault rifle.

The state of our country is absolutely terrifying. I was on my honeymoon 3 months ago in Niagara Falls. It was the 4th of July weekend. I couldn't help but think in that moment waiting to board The Maid Of The Mist. It's a patriotic weekend, it's a highly dense area of people. This could be the spot of an attack.

On my honeymoon having the time of my life, seeing Niagara Falls for the first time I can recall(saw it at 3 or 4 years old) those thoughts shouldn't have crossed my mind. That is the terrifying world, and especially country I live in right now

Makes no sense to me how the gunman was in possession of so many illegal weapons. It should not be that easy for anyone to get their hands on such destructive weapons. Totally unacceptable. Enough is enough already.
