After getting over the initial shock of the song not matching the sound or direction I thought the band might go ... I started to appreciate it for what it is...a song that is going to have the entire audience dancing around and having a great time. We had this cranked and turned the living room into a party. Love it.
If it's a song you need to listen to over and over again to force yourself to like it, or if you like it only because it was made by one of your favorite bands... that has always seemed silly to me. It's either a good song, or it's not. You either like it or don't (Not even referring to the person above, I'm not making assumptions about you)
I get what you're saying, but some of my favorite albums are albums that didn't click right away or I was somewhat disappointed in at first, so I think there is some middle ground there.
Im a big brand new fan and like "Mene" a lot, but this is really crap. It sounds like a 13 year old wrote that guitar riff. So bland and boring. And brand new is a pretty competent band
After I got past the "holy shit Brand New released a new song" phase of this song coming out, I sat down and really thought about how much I liked it. Took a few more listens to really enjoy the simplicity of the song. Love it, and I expect this to be pretty cool to see live.
I mean, if any other band had released Daisy I wouldn't have given that shit more than one listen. Now I like that album as a whole about the same as YFW (though obviously for different reasons). I really don't need heavy, expierimental music/song structures and screamy vocals I can barely understand to like Brand New. If they can right some straight forward rock/punk/pop punk songs with catchy hooks and good lyrics, then fuck yeah I am all in. As much as I'd like another TDAG type album, it seems they were all in a very dark place during the writing process and I doubt we'll get something like that ever again. This song gives me FOYD demo vibes a little bit, but with lyrics that aren't as super dark. I'm on that hype train.
I hope the entire new album are rippers like this and Mene. We already have TDAGARIM and Daisy, so for that sound I'll go back to those records.
