This song is... interesting. Whereas I listened to Mene obsessively when it dropped, this song is not grabbing me quite the same. It's good, but something about that guitar line bothers me. It's going to have an awesome live energy though! Definitely a song that will have to grow on me for my personal listening. I'm just happy to have any Brand New at all.
Sounds like it was cut during the same session as Jesse's cover of the REM song that was on the KD split...
This thread sounds a lot like the reaction to Thrice's "Blood on the Sand." As a former musician, I can tell you firsthand that writing something straightforward is harder than it sounds.

Overall...am I happy? Yes. Am I excited? God, yes. Do I love it? No...not yet anyway (much of Daisy took a while to grow on me) ...I also prefer the more slow/melancholy songs, so it makes sense to me that I wouldn't love it right away. I do like the lyrics, though. I think I might like Mene better overall, though.
Hrm, interesting. Do I dare get my hopes up? Knowing BN they're just as likely to put this song and Mene on a 7" and call it an EP (though you'd think that would make little sense given they're pressing this song as a 12"...)
I think its pretty underwhelming. Its not bad but i dont think its anything great or special, especially not Brand New great. But i also think Brand New is one of those bands you really need to listen to each album as a whole.
So far I dig the new song, but it so hard to compare it to the rest of their catalog. We know they change their sound every alum and as many people have already said it may sound different with in the context of the album. Its also hard for an artist to live up to their incredible releases, because they always seem to fall short.
If a band that wasn't as good as Brand New released this i'd love it, but I think my standards for them are too high
i'd excited to hear this song in the context of the entire album. it kind of reminds me of hearing the quiet things in the shadow of deja.
Unsurprisingly, I love this. Also I loved Mene, and I would love it if that was on the new record somewhere too.
Bums me out to say this, but I'm really not a fan of this song. The opening riff used throughout is grating, and the choruses are just not good. I do enjoy the verses, though. Just feels like a lazy pop punk song to me, and I enjoyed Mene much more.
I'm not totally sure what it is, but something about it annoys me haha. It's just really high and a lot of hammer-ons (never been a fan of excessive use of them- like "Capital M-E" by TBS). Kind of reminds me of something you'd hear as filler in a show from the early 2000s? Idk.
