Hate Stay Awake/Stay Alive Oceans Bury My Bones at Crystal Cove Passengers Hurt Beneath the Silver Strand Wasted in NYC Four White Walls A take: Hate is the best thing this band has ever released and Four White Walls is their best song of all time
I love the EP trilogy as a whole, but I think HURT is the best of the three. You can tell they really had their groove song writing and got a hang on the DIY process. Hate has some gems though, FWW, Oceans and Wasted In NYC specifically
@Patterns in Traffic @Larry David @johnnyferris @Davjs @choke @bachna84 Just a reminder for today’s festivities
Divided (This was a pretty easy decision - I think Hate is a pretty juvenile song and it feels like Hawthorne Heights is trying to be a band that they're not) Stay Awake/Stay Alive (Chemicals is a solid song, but I prefer this one) Oceans (This was another pretty easy one for me - I really like this song a lot) Bury My Bones At Crystal Cove (Easy decision - this song is great and I don't really care much for Nowhere Fast) Tail Lights (This was the toughest one for me up to this point, it's basically a coin flip - I'll give the slightest edge to Tail Lights since it has a reference to Ohio and as an Ohioan I think I have a legal obligation to vote for it) Running In Place (NIKI AM) (Ugh, another tough one! I'll give Hope a little bit of love) Beneath The Silver Strand (This wasn't too difficult) Wasted In NYC (Easiest decision of the round!) New Winter (This wasn't too difficult either - I really enjoy this song and it's really catchy) --------------------- A few Hate/Hope/Hurt thoughts: 1) I hate (pun intended) that Hate and Hope aren't available on Apple Music. I listened to the songs from these two EPs on YouTube, but it's just kind of a pain. 2) I enjoy Hate and Hurt a fair amount more than Hope. 3) This was a pretty ambitious project for the band and it's a shame that it seems to have gone unnoticed by most people. I'm seeing them this Sunday evening on the Silverstein tour and I'm looking forward to it! With Silverstein playing an extended set (or two sets really) I'm expecting Hawthorne Heights to have somewhere around 45 minutes. I'm thinking they'll likely stick to their first two albums plus a few songs from Bad Frequencies.
Divided (Hate is so juvenile, probably the worst HH song IMO. Divided is a standout on this EP.) Chemicals (One of my favorites on Hope, nothing really stands out to me about SA/SA) Young Again (This one was close, the prechorus on Oceans is great but that spoken word bridge brings it down a notch) Bury My Bones at Crystal Cove (#teamcrystalcove) Tail Lights (Close but I like this one a little more) Hurt (I'm not intentionally voting for all the Hurt songs here but it's far superior to the other two EPs IMO) Beneath the Silver Strand (See above) Wasted in NYC (I can't see any of the "There Was a Kid"s advancing, but for the record I think they get progressively better on each EP) New Winter (Pretty close but I'm not crazy about the hardcore gang chanting in FWW)
Current totals: Hate-1 Divided-2 Stay Awake/Stay Alive-2 Chemicals-1 Young Again-1 Oceans-2 Bury My Bones At Crystal Cove-3 Nowhere Fast-0 Tail Lights-2 Passengers-1 Running In Place (NIKI AM)-1 Hurt-2 Beneath The Silver Strand-3 Stranded-0 Wasted In NYC-3 There Was A Kid Pt. 2-0 New Winter-2 Four White Walls-1
- Divided (Agree with @Patterns in Traffic on this match up for sure) - Chemicals (A legit great song. A year ago I never thought I'd say that about this band haha. Tough match up though, SA is pretty good too) - Oceans (both pretty ok tracks on par with each other. The ending to Oceans is pretty sweet and intense though) - Bury My Bones At Crystal Cove (seems like no contest there) - Passengers - Running In Place (NIKI AM) (Hurt is a good song, and I hate Niki FM....but here we are. The follow up to FM is really good) - Beneath The Silver Strand (My favorite on the Hurt EP, which is the best of these 3 IMO) - Wasted In NYC (Not a fan of any of these Kid openers. Even if Wasted in NYC sucked, which it doesn't, it'd win haha) - New Winter (I normally like heavier/louder more, but the chanting in Four White Walls didn't do it for me...)
