A Long December is great, and classic Counting Crows, but I gotta give the nod to Angels of the Silences. I still remember going to this show in high school and being sad they didn't play it. I also want to hear Butch Walker cover it.
Surprising to see they didn’t play it since they only had 3 albums out at that time and Angels of the Silences was a pretty big hit
Agreed, and they played it other nights of the tour, so I'm not sure why we didn't get it. Always thought it would make a great set opener.
I assume so? I honestly have no idea. I only remember a few things about that show: I went with my best friend at the time and we had a field trip with our guitar class at school that took us right near the venue, but they made us go all the way back to school and wouldn't let us leave on our own from the field trip location My girlfriend at the time was mad that she wasn't going (we weren't together when I bought the tickets and I think it had sold out) They didn't play Angels of the Silences The show was, nonetheless, awesome
Yeah, around when he did "Since U Been Gone." Chris Carrabba covered "Angels of the Silences," but he did the acoustic version, which has never been anywhere near as good IMO.
And by a closer margin than I could’ve anticipated, “A Long December” deservedly wins for Recovering the Satellites!! A Long December - 4 Angels of the Silences - 3 This Desert Life starts next!
I need to get myself a wife, so we can get married to This Desert Life! This Desert Life ROUND ONE 1.) Colorblind vs. Hanginaround 2.) St. Robinson in His Cadillac Dream vs. Amy Hit the Atmosphere 3.) Kid Things vs. High Life
Colorblind Amy High Life This is the album that, initially, took me the longest to get into. (Only the first four were out when I became a huge fan.) Some oddities on this record.
Current Totals ———————— Colorblind - 2 Hanginaround - 1 St. Robinson in His Cadillac Dream - 1 Amy Hit the Atmosphere - 2 Kid Things - 0 High Life - 3
Hanginaround (This was brutal - both songs of theirs that I enjoy a lot. I expect Colorblind to win this matchup though) Amy Hit the Atmosphere (Another tough one) High Life (This was easy)
Colorblind St. Robinson High Life (though KT is a JAM) This record and the next are especially gonna be tough for me
Hanginaround St. Robinson Kid Things This album came out right around when I started going to shows a lot and it will always hold a special place for me. I think I saw them 5 times in 3 states shortly after it came out (or something like that). These ones were easy for me. Colorblind never hit me like it did a lot of people, and those last two were always a great one two punch for me. I always loved the line “I may not go to heaven — I hope you go to hell,” and Kid Things is one of my favorite hidden tracks ever.
Hanginaround – Colorblind is great, but Hanginaround is a fucking jam and a half. Amy Hit the Atmosphere – St. Robinson is great live, but it doesn’t quite stack up to Amy on the album. High Life – High Life is mid-tier on this album, but Kid Things feels like a parody.
And the first round of This Desert Life comes to a close! Winners in bold... Colorblind - 4 Hanginaround - 5 St. Robinson in His Cadillac Dream - 4 Amy Hit the Atmosphere - 5 Kid Things - 1 High Life - 8 Round Two up next!
This Desert Life ROUND TWO 1.) Speedway vs. Hanginaround 2.) All My Friends vs. Four Days 3.) I Wish I Was a Girl vs. Amy Hit the Atmosphere 4.) Mrs. Potter’s Lullaby vs. High Life
